I Know What You Did Last Summers Freddie Prinze Jr. Motivated for Sequel

As a huge fan of the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” franchise, I’m thrilled to hear that Freddie Prinze Jr. is considering reprising his role as Ray Bronson in the upcoming horror follow-up. The memories of him surviving the wrath of the vengeful Ben Willis (Muse Watson) not once but twice in the ’90s still give me goosebumps.

1. In the ’90s, character Ray Bronson, portrayed by Freddie Prinze Jr., managed to cheat death not just once but twice at the hands of a vengeful Ben Willis (Muse Watson) in the movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (1997). Now, Prinze Jr. is eager to reprise his role as the survivor in director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s upcoming horror film sequel. However, whether or not Prinze Jr. will be a part of it will hinge on scheduling and the quality of the script. According to an interview with Us Weekly, he expressed his interest in the project.

1. “A deal isn’t sealed until the papers are signed, but I’m definitely in discussions with them. If it aligns with everyone’s interests — and I believe they share this desire — then we’ll attempt to find a solution. However, we need to ensure that everyone’s schedules can accommodate each other.”

In the same interview, Prinze Jr., who played Jennifer Love Hewitt’s love interest in both the original 1997 movie and its 1998 sequel titled “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” further explained:

“Everyone should be content with the screenplay because I have a great admiration for Jen Robinson, who’s directing the reboot. I appreciate her as a director and as an individual, and I believe she represents the future of this industry. That, along with other factors, makes me eager to work on the movie. I believe everyone is equally motivated, and we are all working diligently to make it successful.”

Jennifer Love Hewitt Dishes About I Know What You Did Last Summer Follow-Up

Discussions are ongoing about Freddie Prinze Jr.’s return as Ray Bronson, while director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” remake has already secured its main cast members: Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King. Additionally, Jennifer Love Hewitt is still in discussions about reprising her role as Julie James in the upcoming sequel of the franchise. Hewitt mentioned this possibility during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel exhilarated at the prospect of this project coming to life. If it actually materializes, I don’t know how to describe the emotions I’ll experience – overwhelmed, grateful, and perhaps even disbelief. It’s hard to believe that something so amazing could be a reality. Yet, the thought of it fills me with excitement. I truly hope that this dream becomes a reality, and I can only imagine the fun we’d have if it does.

Hewitt continued:

“I think there’s power in being older.
There’s power in having gone off and had three kids. There’s a sense of, like, I can do anything now.
The vulnerability that was Julie James in one and two definitely doesn’t exist in this one.
I’m excited to just show her grown up.”

It’s possible that another actor might take over the role of hook-handed fisherman Ben Willis, if Robinson chooses to bring back this character from “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.” Although Julie (Hewitt) fired a full magazine at Willis in the end, it’s plausible he was wearing a bulletproof vest. Given that she missed shooting him in the head, there’s room for speculation.

If “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (2025) by Robinson ignores most films in the series except the first one, just like how “Halloween” (2018) disregarded previous movies, there’s a higher likelihood of Watson reprising his role as the terrifying fisherman. Watson is fond of his part in horror films and expressed his appreciation for the fans’ acceptance in an interview, titled “He Still Knows What You Did,” on a Blu-ray extra feature (as reported by Are You Scared HD): “Being compared to other horror icons is an honor for me. The horror genre fans have accepted my portrayal gratefully.”
