As a long-time comic book fan and follower of Channing Tatum’s career, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard he was finally bringing Gambit to life in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The anticipation built up inside me as I watched him perfectly embody the character in the film, donning the iconic purple suit and wielding a deck of playing cards.

As a diehard fan of Deadpool and Wolverine, it’s always a thrill to see beloved actors back in their timeless roles. The film even offered Channing Tatum his long-desired shot at embodying Gambit within the Marvel universe. For years, he had been associated with a solo Gambit movie while Fox held the rights to the X-Men characters. However, when Disney acquired these rights and merged them into the MCU, the Gambit film got tangled up and was put on hold indefinitely. Fortunately, Tatum has finally gotten the chance to bring Gambit to life on the big screen, and he couldn’t be more ecstatic about it!
Channing Tatum shared his enthusiasm on Twitter about bringing the beloved X-Men character Gambit to life for fans. Known for imbuing objects with potent energy, Gambit is a fan-favorite from comic books and the ’90s X-Men cartoon. Tatum’s connection with Ryan Reynolds dates back further, as he praised Reynolds for making Deadpool a reality in 2016. In the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine“, Channing Tatum dons a faithful adaptation of Gambit’s comic book costume, featuring his iconic purple attire and headpiece. He also wields a retractable staff and engages in combat by throwing a deck of seemingly infinite playing cards at Cassandra Nova’s henchmen. Given the nature of “Deadpool & Wolverine“, Channing Tatum was allowed to push Gambit into R-rated humor, making jokes about his own origins and referencing his famous line from “22 Jump Street” with an over-the-top Cajun accent. Fans found Channing Tatum’s portrayal of Gambit spot-on, expressing their appreciation for it online.

As a longtime fan of the X-Men franchise, I must admit that the current state of their future in the MCU leaves me feeling a bit uneasy. Officially, no new X-Men films have been announced by Marvel Studios. Yet, the recent successes of movies like “Deadpool” and “Logan” featuring mutant characters have proven that there is still a huge appetite for these stories.
