Ford Unveils New Street Truck: The 2025 Maverick Lobo

As a seasoned enthusiast of automobiles, particularly those hailing from the golden age of street trucks, I must say, Ford has truly outdone themselves with the Maverick Lobo. Growing up in the ’80s and ’90s, these performance-tuned trucks were the epitome of cool, and to see a modern interpretation that captures their spirit is nothing short of exhilarating.

Ford has introduced the Maverick Lobo, a revamped performance edition of its beloved Maverick pickup truck, taking cues from the street trucks popular during the mid-1980s to early 2000s. This model is the brainchild of Ford’s Josh Blundo and the masterful workmanship of Keith Daugherty. The Lobo boasts a lower ride height, an on-road fine-tuned suspension system, and a potent 2.0L EcoBoost engine under its hood. With a slight dip in the front by half an inch and a more significant drop at the rear of 1.12 inches, the Lobo presents a sleeker silhouette, further enhanced by a minor roof height reduction of 0.8 inches.

The performance of the vehicle is boosted by torque vectoring, a twin-clutch rear drive system, and larger dual-piston front brake calipers similar to those found in the Focus ST. A novel driving mode called Lobo, inspired by drifting and autocross, offers superior cornering, grip, and stability, making it ideal for closed-course performance driving. The Maverick Lobo showcases a unique street truck design with an eye-catching front styling, painted rear bumper, and rocker moldings. Its black roof and 19-inch black wheels further enhance its striking look. Inside, the Lobo is adorned with Grabber Blue and Electric Lime accent stitching, graffiti-inspired seat designs, and the Lobo name embroidered on the seats.

In two variants – standard and upgraded, the Maverick Lobo comes equipped with numerous facilities. The premium version boasts amenities such as heated seats, a full surround camera system, and cutting-edge driver-assist systems. As for the Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist, they will be accessible starting from early 2025.

To mark the arrival of their new truck, Ford collaborated with Randy’s Donuts in Los Angeles, making its Inglewood branch resemble the wheel of the new Lobo model. They also introduced exclusive donuts as part of this collaboration. At the moment of writing, pre-orders for the 2025 Maverick Lobo are being accepted, with a base price of $40,500 USD and anticipated deliveries in early 2025.
