As a seasoned gamer of life’s unpredictable challenges, I must say, it’s always a rollercoaster ride when our favorite personalities take a sudden detour due to unexpected obstacles like Covid-19. Jon Stewart, a beacon of wit and satire, finding himself in the red zone is certainly not the news we wanted this week.
Comedy Central‘s The Daily Show won’t have Jon Stewart behind the desk this week.
It was announced on Monday that Stewart has recently tested positive for COVID-19, which means he won’t host the show this week. He’ll be back on our screens on Monday, August 12.
As a dedicated fan of “The Daily Show,” I’m thrilled to share that this week, Michael Kosta, one of my favorite correspondents, will take over as host. It’s always inspiring to see someone rise from being a viewer like me to becoming an integral part of the show I love so much. The lineup of guests is nothing short of impressive: author Roxane Gay and Ed Helms, a former “Daily Show” correspondent and actor whose work I’ve admired for years. This week promises to be a rollercoaster ride of laughter, insights, and thought-provoking conversations, and I can hardly wait!
Earlier in the year, Stewart re-joined “The Daily Show,” reaching an agreement with Comedy Central that has him hosting on Mondays, while other team members take charge on other days. Since then, the show’s ratings have seen a boost, not just during Stewart’s episodes, but also on non-hosting nights.
Although the COVID-related production restrictions that were implemented in 2020 have been significantly relaxed, the virus continues to affect some performers, causing them to miss their shows in recent times. For instance, Stephen Colbert was forced to postpone a whole week of The Late Show last year due to testing positive for the virus.
Clearly, The Daily Show boasts a group of correspondents, such as Kosta, who can stand in for Stewart, a task that Colbert is unable to perform.
