The possible conclusion of the Fast & Furious crew’s adventures might be approaching, but one cast member has revealed that he hasn’t received a script for the upcoming film yet, which is expected to start production in 2025 as part of the main series. Kicking off in 2001 with “The Fast and the Furious,” this billion-dollar franchise has produced 10 films in the primary storyline, one spinoff movie, an animated series, and a couple of short films. The most recent installment, “Fast X” released in 2023, raked in over $700 million at the global box office. However, after this success, it has been decided that it’s time to bring the series to a definitive end.
Tyrese Gibson, who debuted as Roman Pearce in 2003 within the Fast & Furious franchise, recently chatted with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast about his new drama titled “1992”. During their conversation, they inevitably touched upon the Fast & Furious series. Gibson confirmed that the last installment will return to its original roots, stating, “They’re bringing it back to the streets, returning to the basics – something the fans have been waiting for.”
In a turn of events, the singer-actor expressed that starting from 2003, blockbuster franchises like “Fast and Furious” and “Transformers” significantly impacted his life. Prior to this, he had been making guest appearances on TV shows, primarily as himself. However, it was his role in John Singleton’s 2001 film “Baby Boy,” where he received recognition for his performance, that didn’t quite alter his life until the release of “2 Fast 2 Furious” the same year.
Currently, over two decades since the initial release and approaching the finale of the Fast & Furious series, Gibson admits he hasn’t received a script for the upcoming movie. Nevertheless, at 45 years old, Gibson appears to handle this situation calmly, maintaining contact with co-star Vin Diesel. When the time arrives, he assures us that he will be prepared.

Fast 11 Is Still a Long Way Off
Initially planned for release in April 2025, the production of Fast 11 faced a delay due to the 2023 Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes that disrupted the industry significantly. With the aftermath of these strikes still being felt, it’s uncertain when Fast 11 will start filming again. However, Gibson confirmed earlier this year that it will indeed be released in 2025, but the exact date remains undetermined at this point.
As a movie critic, I must confess that due to two successive strikes, the production process has faced significant setbacks, leading to some unavoidable delays. However, I’ve recently learned that we aim to kickstart the project right in the New Year of 2025, marking our eagerness to bring this film to life as soon as possible.
Although an official confirmation about the start of filming for Fast 11 in early 2025 hasn’t been announced yet, director Louis Leterrier has confirmed his return for the final installment, Fast X. However, it is unlikely that the movie will meet its initial April release date, with Leterrier now suggesting that fans should anticipate watching the concluding adventure of Gibson and the team sometime in 2026.
