As Chicago Med And Chicago Fire Join Chicago P.D. In Casting New Stars, Can We Start Hoping For A Crossover?

As a long-time fan of One Chicago and a veteran gamer who’s survived countless quests and story arcs, I can confidently say that the return of my beloved shows is like embarking on an epic adventure I’ve been eagerly anticipating for months. The addition of new cast members to Chicago Fire and Chicago Med feels akin to discovering hidden loot chests or unlocking secret levels in a game – it’s both thrilling and nerve-wracking, knowing that the storylines will evolve and characters will grow.

As a die-hard fan, I’m eagerly counting down the days as we inch closer to the premiere season of 2024 for the major TV networks. This means that my favorite NBC series, One Chicago, will be back next month! With the cliffhangers from last seasons and the exciting announcements during hiatus, it’s clear that there are some changes brewing in the fall. However, only Chicago P.D. has revealed a new cast member so far… until now! It looks like both Chicago Med and Chicago Fire have also added fresh talent to their lineup, and I can hardly wait to see if we’ll get some thrilling crossover action once again.

In the past week, the most noticeable change was that Tracy Spiridakos’ departure from P.D. had been announced before the last season even began, leaving viewers wondering who would take over Upton’s role in Season 12. Now, we have the answer: one of the One Chicago alums is joining the cop drama. Here’s what Med and Fire have planned for you!

Chicago Fire Adds Two New Stars And Promotes Another

In the upcoming Season 13 of “Chicago Fire,” Dermot Mulroney, known from “Station 19,” was introduced as a new character, Battalion Chief Dom Pascal. He will step into Eamonn Walker’s role as Boden at Firehouse 51 on a permanent basis, although it’s yet to be determined if he’ll remain for the long haul, considering Herrmann was originally chosen by Boden as his successor and still holds a position with the CFD. For now, viewers can look forward to the addition of some new faces at the firehouse.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that KaDee Strickland, known for her roles in Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, and Private Practice, is joining the cast! According to TVLine, she will be portraying the estranged wife of Mulroney’s fresh character, named Monica Pascal. I can’t wait to see how this adds depth to the game!

To wrap it up, TVLine has shared news from the set of Fire that Jake Lockett will now hold a permanent role for Season 13. Frankly, his promotion comes as no shock to me since Carver was given significant storylines last season and his budding romance with Violet was quite prominent. Given that Jocelyn Hudson’s character, Lyla Novak, has already been established as a series regular as a paramedic, it appears that Fire is expanding on Violet’s relationships for Season 13.

Chicago Med Casts Multiple New Characters As One Regular Leaves

During the summer, it became known that Dominic Rains was departing from the show Med, paving the way for resolution of Crockett Marcell’s cliffhanger in the Season 9 finale. It appeared probable that Med would bring on a new doctor or introduce surgery to replace him, but surprisingly, this medical drama has introduced not one, but two fresh characters, and also confirmed the return of three prominent stars instead.

Actress Sarah Ramos from Parenthood and Darren Barnet known for Never Have I Ever have been added to the cast of Chicago Med’s upcoming Season 10. They will portray Dr. Caitlin Lenox, a new attending doctor in the ER, and Dr. John Frost, a pediatric resident who conceals a secret. Previously on Chicago Med, we saw Luke Mitchell (Dr. Mitch Ripley) as an ED doctor hiding a secret in Season 10, and it’s nice to see another pediatric doctor, last seen as Dylan Scott (Guy Lockard), returning to the hospital after his sudden departure during early Season 8.

In the upcoming Season 12 of “Chicago P.D.”, along with “One Chicago” and “New Amsterdam” veteran Toya Turner is joining the cast. This fall will bring an influx of new characters across all three series. Although I’m not expecting another grand three-part crossover like before the COVID-19 production changes, it would be exciting to see characters making appearances on other shows more frequently, even for brief guest spots.

That trend did increase a bit in what actually aired of the 2023-2024 TV season, but that season was also abbreviated after the WGA writers strike and SAG-AFTRA actors strike. While it remains to be seen if One Chicago will be more cohesive across all three shows starting next month, at least the wait is almost over! One Chicago returns to NBC this fall on Wednesday, September 25 with Med at 8 p.m. ET, Fire at 9 p.m. ET, and P.D. at 10 p.m. ET, as usual. All three shows are also available streaming with a Peacock Premium subscription.
