Kusha Kapila reveals her mother had to ‘face opinions’ post divorce with Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia; ‘Didn’t have the bandwidth for it’

As a dedicated follower and admirer of Kusha Kapila, I find her bravery and resilience truly inspiring. Her recent experiences with societal harshness towards women, especially during her separation from her ex-husband, serve as a stark reminder of the challenges we still face in our society.

Kusha Kapila and her former spouse, Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia, parted ways. On a comedy show recently, some unpleasant remarks were made about their separation that she found inappropriate. The actress from Life Hill Gayi has now disclosed that, although she decided to maintain silence on the specifics of their divorce, it was her mother who had to deal with the aftermath.

During an interaction with Fever FM, I openly discussed the unyielding rigidity in our society towards women, sharing my past experience of withdrawing myself as a means of coping. Additionally, I pointed out that my mother, who lived a more traditional life, was subjected to even harsher judgment and examination.

In my personal experience, I’ve noticed a lack of kindness towards women in society, which unfortunately was something my mother may have encountered as well. To be honest, I found myself disengaging from opinions or discussions related to this topic during that time because I didn’t have the mental capacity for it. Therefore, I am confident that my mother could articulate her thoughts on this matter more eloquently than I can.

Kapila noted that her mother needed to balance family interactions, societal expectations, and personal life activities such as attending the temple or visiting the park while also being part of various social circles. She further mentioned, “She needed to communicate with relatives and engage with society. Yet, she had her own life… whether it’s going to the temple, the park, or participating in her own social groups, she encountered opinions from others. That’s just how the world operates.”

In simpler terms, she admitted that this is a truth of their era, and although things have improved in many ways, certain elements still stay constant. Meanwhile, Kusha understood that once you expose your life to the public, you can’t dictate the online feedback you get.

Moving ahead, it’s important to consider the impact of disclosing personal information, as there will always be repercussions. She strongly advised that it is inappropriate and hurtful when others presume things about you and speak for you, causing confusion about what needs clarification or explanation.
