The actress spoke openly with InStyle for their latest cover issue, which went live online on Tuesday, a week before the premiere of season four of the popular Netflix show. During the interview, she discussed Emily’s compulsion for perfection, how portraying her character rekindled her passion for fashion, and her aspirations beyond Paris.

Reflecting on filming the first season of ‘Emily in Paris’, I found myself reminiscing about conversations with my then-fiance, Charlie McDowell. We mused over the similarities between Emily and me, but I yearned to establish a distinct identity for both of us. I wrestled with Emily’s relentless pursuit of perfection, a struggle that mirrored my own experiences.

She expressed to the media outlet that the notion of perpetual perfection, constantly striving to be at your best self without a moment’s respite, is not her preferred lifestyle, particularly at 35 years old. Hinting at the upcoming fourth season, she suggested it will be a time of openness and vulnerability, with complex situations and intense emotional episodes in store.

In other parts of her profile, Collins mentioned that she had been in a relationship prior to her current marriage where the partner frequently criticized her clothing choices, insisting she couldn’t wear certain items. Consequently, she found herself in a less vibrant phase, opting for more subdued colors and avoiding anything too extravagant or revealing.

“Initially, I believed that by being more imposing physically, you’d occupy too much room,” I pondered. However, the character Emily from ‘Emily in Paris’ helped me rediscover my flair for fashion and ultimately myself. In a delightful manner, Emily fills up so much space – her bold combinations of patterns, prints, textures, and styles were initially alien to me. Yet, as I embraced this newfound fearlessness with color, I found that I no longer needed to be apprehensive about vibrant hues.”

Regarding the future projects for the actress from MaXXXine, Collins mentioned she’s excited to keep pushing boundaries with her new roles. One of these roles includes Polly Pocket in Mattel’s adaptation, a project that has been underway even before Greta Gerwig’s successful Barbie movie.

Collins is all set to play the leading role as well as produce the movie, titled after the toy. The story revolves around a young girl and a miniature woman who become friends. She expressed her enthusiasm about exploring this universe on the silver screen, referring to the iconic doll.

Initially, Lena Dunham was involved in both directing and writing the movie, but she’s now chosen to leave the project following her work on the script for a span of three years. Nevertheless, the company remains committed to telling that particular story.
