Final Fantasy XVI PC port poised for ‘imminent’ release

As a seasoned gamer with over three decades under my belt, I can confidently say that the news of a Final Fantasy XVI PC port has me both excited and relieved. I remember the days when RPGs were primarily console-bound, and the thought of playing them on a PC was as far-fetched as a flying car (and we’re getting closer to that!).

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but share some exciting news about Final Fantasy XVI. While it’s no secret that a PC version might be in the works, it seems like NVIDIA’s leaky faucet may have spilled the beans before the official announcement. Latest whispers hint towards Square Enix preparing to launch an all-new platform for us to immerse ourselves in the action RPG come 2023.

It’s reasonable to observe that Final Fantasy XVI has faced several challenges: initially affected by the pandemic, later delayed due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and underperforming in sales compared to Square Enix’s projections. Fortunately, expanding its player base could provide Clive Rosfield’s journey with the recognition it merits.

For some time now, it was understood that Square Enix would soon allow modifications with the upcoming PC version of Final Fantasy XVI, yet the exact launch date was uncertain. However, a recent update to NVIDIA drivers seems to suggest that the release might be imminent.

First introduced as an exclusive timed game for PlayStation last June, Producer Naoki Yoshida initially dismissed the possibility of a PC version. However, he later conceded that one was underway. Initially, Yoshi P suggested it would take some time, but now, more than a year after its initial release, the timing seems ideal to launch the PC port.

User u/Nestledrink mentioned that the NVIDIA GeForce 560.81 Driver has profiles for both Final Fantasy XVI and Once Human. While it’s just speculation, everyone is eagerly waiting for Gamescom to possibly reveal a release date announcement. Since Square Enix confirmed the PC version, many have been anticipating this as the likely time for its release confirmation.

Enthusiasts are excited about its prospects, but there might be an issue arising. One supporter expressed hope that it would directly release on Steam instead of being another Epic Games Store exclusive. Another fan shared their anticipation, stating they can’t wait to replay the game with improved resolution and frames. Some fans are even thinking ahead, with one concluding, “Bring on FF7 Rebirth next, Square!”

Previously, Yoshi P indicated in March 2024 that the game port was near completion and undergoing final optimization stages. While there were initial plans for a playable demo, recent software updates hint that Square Enix might opt for a full release instead. Regardless, anticipation is high as we approach Gamescom.
