Falguni Pathak shares why she prefers performing on stage than playback singing; says 'Bhaag-daud zyada karni padti hai'

As a child of the ’90s, I can vividly remember the rhythmic beats and melodious tunes that Falguni Pathak, our beloved Dandiya Queen, filled our homes with. From Maine Payal Hai Chhankai to Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi, her songs have been an integral part of my childhood memories.

As the cherished “Dandiya Queen,” I am none other than Falguni Pathak, a renowned singer from the ’90s who has left an indelible mark on the hearts of millennials with my iconic tracks such as Maine Payal Hai Chhankai, Chudi Jo Khanki, and Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi. Reflecting on my career, I find myself drawn more towards the thrill of performing live on stage rather than recording playback singing for movies. To put it simply, I feel a certain “laziness” when it comes to the studio work involved in playback singing. Instead, the energy and connection with the audience that comes from live performances is what truly invigorates me as an artist.

In a recent chat with PTI, Falguni Pathak revealed that while she isn’t averse to acting in films, she finds greater satisfaction in singing on stage because she’s been performing live since she was just nine years old.

Falguni mentioned that she needs to be a bit more active during the process of recording songs for movies, stating, “I feel quite joyful and satisfied. There’s a need for me to move around a tad more (in terms of playback singing).”

She mentioned needing to encounter both individuals, visit the studios, and remain there for extended periods. However, she admitted she’s not particularly keen on taking on this task.

Falguni Pathak elaborated on her songwriting process, emphasizing the importance of a memorable melody and an appealing tune. In her compositions, she avoids incorporating ambiguous or suggestive lyrics. At 55 years old, she openly discussed these aspects during her interview.

In simpler terms, Falguni Pathak shared that she’s thankful for her fans who eagerly anticipate her annual performances. During a recent conversation with TopMob, the artist behind “Sawan Mein” expressed her thoughts on Neha Kakkar remaking her popular song, “Maine Payal Hai Chhankai,” as “O Sajna.”

In 2022, Neha’s released song faced criticism upon debut, as numerous fans accused her of tarnishing their cherished memories from childhood. At that time, Falguni expressed similar opinions when she posted about it on her Instagram stories.

“The legendary singer expressed that they were deeply moved and swamped with affection due to the outpouring of love for their song, and therefore wanted to express their own emotions about it.”

Among Falguni Pathak’s well-known tunes are “Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye”, “Aiyo Rama”, “Pal Pal Teri Yaad Sataye”, and “O Piya” – these are just some examples.
