‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Casts More Roles, Including a Daeron Targaryen

As a seasoned gamer and ardent fan of George R.R. Martin’s intricate universe, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation upon hearing the news about the new additions to HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The prospect of delving deeper into the Targaryen lore is tantalizing, and the casting of Henry Ashton as Daeron the Drunken, a character steeped in prophetic dreams, promises an intriguing portrayal.

HBO’s “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” reveals additional 7 cast members and their characters for the upcoming “Game of Thrones” prequel or “House of the Dragon” sequel.

In the latest announcements, it’s revealed that an actor will portray Daeron Targaryen. This name might ring a bell for fans of “House of the Dragon,” but they may not recognize his face because we’re dealing with a different character here. It’s important to note that in George R.R. Martin’s fantastical universe, there are multiple Daeron Targaryens. The Daeron appearing in “House of the Dragon” is a separate individual from the one being cast.

Henry Ashton, from “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,” has been cast as Daeron – the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms who is also infamously known as Daeron the Drunken. This Daeron is none other than the eldest son of King Maekar I Targaryen and is recognized for his prophetic dreams.

In the TV series “Dragon”, Daeron, who is the fourth child of King Viserys and Alicent Hightower, has not appeared on screen but is occasionally mentioned. Fans have been discussing whether Daeron will be included in the show. According to the showrunner Ryan Condal, “Daeron is yet to be cast. He’s a character in our series, but at this stage of the story, he’s in Oldtown where he was sent away as a child. So we don’t have a perspective character from that world just yet and there isn’t a compelling reason to visit it.”

Here are the other newly announced actors for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and their roles:

Edward Ashley (Masters of the Air) as Ser Steffon Fossoway.

Youssef Kerkour (House of Gucci) as Steely Pate.

Daniel Monks (Kaos) as Ser Manfred Dondarrion.

Shaun Thomas (How to Have Sex) as Raymun Fossoway.

Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Avengers: Infinity War) as Plummer.

Danny Webb (The Regime) as Ser Arlan of Pennytree.

In a time a century prior to the happenings depicted in “Game of Thrones”, an unconventional pair roamed the lands of Westeros. This duo consisted of a young, inexperienced yet valiant knight named Ser Duncan the Tall, and his small squire, whom we know as Egg. During an era when the Targaryen dynasty still sat on the Iron Throne and the last dragon was still fresh in people’s minds, these extraordinary friends were destined to face great challenges, formidable adversaries, and perilous adventures.

I dived headfirst into the thrilling, six-episode debut season of this captivating series, which brings George R.R. Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight” to life on screen. In this tale, I found myself cheering for Peter Claffey as Dunk and rooting for Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg. This fantastic production is a joint creation of Martin himself and the talented showrunner Ira Parker. As a gamer, it feels like stepping into an immersive game world!

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is expected to premiere in 2025.
