The Boys Has Been Laser-Eyed From The Top Of The Streaming Chart By Another Superhero Show That's 97% On Rotten Tomatoes

As a lifelong fan of Batman and superhero shows, I must admit that the recent rise of “Batman: Caped Crusader” on Amazon Prime Video has sent shivers down my spine. Having grown up with the classic “Batman: The Animated Series”, I was initially skeptical about a new interpretation. However, this series has proven to be a worthy successor, blending the talents of industry greats and offering a fresh take on familiar villains.

Despite having Marvel and DC content on Disney+ and Max, Amazon Prime Video continues to be a significant force in the superhero TV realm. Shows like “Invincible”, “The Tick”, and especially the violent one, “The Boys”, keep it high on the charts. The politically charged action series held the top spot for weeks after its outrageous Season 4 finale, but was recently dethroned by another impressive superhero show earlier than anticipated.

Batman: Caped Crusader Has Taken Over Amazon’s Prime Video Charts

On August 1, the much-anticipated animated series “Batman: Caped Crusader” made its streaming debut. Initially conceived as a production for Max and Cartoon Network, it was put on hold when Warner Bros. Discovery decided to shelve projects at various stages of development or completion. However, Prime Video took over as the new host, allowing fans of Batman to enjoy this high-quality series that boasts the creative input of Bruce Timm from “Batman: The Animated Series”, comic book writer Ed Brubaker, director Matt Reeves from “The Batman”, and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot.

Despite consistently ranking high on Amazon’s Top 10 list with shows like “Jack Reacher,” the run of “The Boys” was disrupted by the popularity of the throwback noir series starring Batman and a reimagined villain lineup that included Minnie Driver’s unique portrayal of the Penguin, as well as Jamie Chung’s version of Asian Harley Quinn.

As I write this, “Batman: Caped Crusader” has been perched atop Prime Video’s rankings for an impressive four consecutive days. This isn’t just a fleeting success – it’s clear evidence that the DC vigilante’s latest animated series is no flash in the pan. I, along with many other fans, am eagerly anticipating the villainous hints dropped for future episodes. I have no doubt these enticing teasers will keep us hooked and encourage word-of-mouth recommendations, drawing new viewers into the dark alleys of Gotham City’s past.

How Has Batman: Caped Crusader Fared With Critics?

Despite facing criticism online due to changes in characters like Batman: Caped Crusader’s villains, it seems these feelings haven’t hindered the show from being widely acclaimed by critics. At present, the series boasts a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is based on 59 reviews, implying that the vast majority of critics are fans of the show.

Generally speaking, the DC Studios project has been widely appreciated as a refined adaptation of the style seen in the acclaimed “Batman: The Animated Series.” This series is often hailed as one of the best depictions of Batman across all media. The 2D interpretation of the character by Kevin Conroy remains beloved among fans, and while Hamish Linklater’s portrayal doesn’t quite match those heights, it serves as a commendable continuation in the tradition of Bruce Timm’s work.

It appears that the Audience Score, regrettably, seems to mirror a viewership less receptive to the recent changes. With over 500 ratings logged, this score stands at 58%. Granted, it’s better than some superhero movies out there, but it can’t hold a candle to the exceptional reviews from critics.

Even though Max’s live-action “The Penguin” show and the animated series aren’t available on the same streaming platform, I’m curious to see how they perform among viewers. Given Colin Farrell’s impressive portrayal of Oswald Cobblepot in the 2022 film, let’s hope both shows will keep fans engaged until “The Batman” hits theaters in 2026.

It’s great news that Season 2 of “Caped Crusader” is included in the list of upcoming Batman series and films to anticipate. In due time, Eric Kripke’s comic book franchise will likely regain its prominent position when “Gen V” Season 2 premieres or when the fifth and final season of “The Boys” arrives. Additionally, there’s also excitement for the Mexico-set spinoff and/or the Soldier Boy spinoff when they eventually debut. For now, let’s all enjoy some tea sandwiches!
