Stree 2: A quick recap of what happened in first part of Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi starrer

As a dedicated fan of Bollywood horror-comedy flicks, I can confidently say that Stree 2 is the cinematic event I’ve been eagerly waiting for since the first part left me spellbound! The original Stree (2018) was a masterpiece in its own right, and the anticipation for this sequel has only grown stronger with each passing day.

2024’s highly anticipated movie “Stree,” featuring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurrana, has been generating buzz since its announcement. With its Independence Day (August 15) release approaching, let’s revisit the events of the first installment.

Story of Chanderi

In the year 2018, the movie titled “Stree” was unveiled. The film directed by Amar Kaushik introduces us to a small-town named Chanderi where locals believe in an angry female spirit known as Stree. Once a year, during a four-day religious event, she is said to touch men of the town, whisper their names, and vanish if they dare to look back at her.

1. To safeguard themselves, locals scribble “strangers stay away” in blood on their thresholds. Moreover, it’s recommended that men travel in groups rather than solo after 10 pm throughout the celebration to ensure security.

Here comes Vicky, a tailor for women, residing in Chanderi. One day, he meets an enigmatic girl, known as the nameless one (Shraddha Kapoor). During the annual festival, Vicky falls head over heels for her at first glance. She asks him to create a lehenga for her. As their friendship blossoms, the mysterious girl gives Vicky an odd shopping list with items like a lizard’s tail, white cat fur, Datura flowers, meat, and brandy, which raises eyebrows among his friends like Bittu, who suspects she might be Stree. His suspicions intensify when another friend, Janna, gets abducted by Stree. Despite Vicky’s reluctance to believe it, he too starts to doubt her true nature. He eventually confronts her, but once again, she disappears without a trace.

Discovering Stree’s mention in Chanderi Puran

Following Janna’s abduction, Vicky, Bittu, and town librarian Rudra Bhaiya (played by Pankaj Tripathi), who also practices phrenology, put forth their utmost efforts to rescue their friend. They stumble upon a fragmented book named Chanderi Puran in Rudra’s library, which describes Stree’s tale and an ancient fort.

As Vicky goes on a date with the enigmatic lady, he unexpectedly identifies the fort. Accompanied by this trio, they venture to the castle, rumored to be Stree’s hideout for Janna. Stree scares Bittu and Rudra, coming close to attacking Vicky, but holds back as she perceives affection and admiration in his gaze. Eventually, she retreats due to the mysterious girl’s magical charm.

Afterward, the enigmatic lady confides in us that she’s been striving to vanquish Stree for a span of three long years, ever since I lost someone dear to me. This revelation leads us to suspect that she and Stree might be two distinct entities.

As per Vicky’s wish, Stree lets Janna go. However, Vicky starts having occasional violent outbursts. Furthermore, under Stree’s control, Janna alters a protective phrase outside the doors, removing the word “tomorrow,” leaving only “O Stree come.” This results in several men vanishing.

Shahstri, author of Chandra Puran reveals Stree was a beautiful courtesan

Vicky, Bittu, Rudra, and the enigmatic girl seek advice from author Shahstri to find a lasting way to protect Chanderi. Shahstri shares the tragic tale of Stree, who was once a captivating courtesan admired by all men in the city. She found true love and prepared for marriage, but on their wedding night, they were brutally murdered by envious townsfolk. Since then, her vengeful spirit has been searching for her one true love, intending to abduct every male resident of the town as retribution.

Vicky, the real savior of Chanderi

As a dedicated fan of the captivating tale of Chanderi, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of admiration for the enigmatic character known as Vicky. With each passing revelation, my fascination only grows stronger.

Together with their companions, they devise a strategy to eliminate Stree, but Vicky hesitates when he understands that she yearns for affection and admiration instead. Shraddha’s character proposes trimming Stree’s powerful braid, and Vicky proceeds, resulting in Stree disappearing.

Vicky bids adieu to mysterious girl

Following that evening, the enigmatic girl departed from Chanderi, and Vicky said goodbye to her. Upon her departure, it struck him that he had failed to inquire about her name.

On the bus, she intertwines Stray’s braid with her own locks, then vanishes, hinting at her being a witch possibly trying to acquire Stray’s magical abilities.

In the conclusion, Stree reappears in Chanderi and finds a statue depicting herself at the city’s main gate, which now reads: “Oh woman, safeguard us.”

Simultaneously, the Stree 2 trailer introduces us to the Chanderi group and an ominous new enemy named Sarkata. The movie is set to be released in theaters on August 15, offering a thrilling, chilly adventure.
