Miley Cyrus Pays Tribute to ‘Hannah Montana’ at Disney Legends Ceremony: “I Stand Here Still Proud”

As a gamer with a soft spot for Disney Channel shows from my childhood, witnessing Miley Cyrus being crowned a Disney Legend at D23 was like stepping into a time machine and reliving my youth. I remember the excitement of watching Hannah Montana, the catchy tunes, and the heartwarming moments that made us all feel a little less ordinary.

Miley Cyrus was bestowed as a Disney Legend during the event on Sunday evening, taking that opportunity to express affection for her time portraying Hannah Montana.

During Disney’s D23 fan expo in Anaheim, Cyrus was among 14 individuals who were acknowledged for their significant influence on the company’s history. Over a span of four seasons from 2006 to 2011, this celebrity starred in the popular Disney Channel series. Following Lainey Wilson’s rendition of her hit song “The Best of Both Worlds,” Cyrus made their appearance on stage.

Cyrus confided in the audience, “I’ll undoubtedly shed some tears,” as they learned he had prepared two speeches for the event: “One lengthy, should I live up to the tough persona expected of me, and a brief one, if fear takes hold.”

In 2005, Disney aimed to revamp and reinvent their company, which is why they brought on Bob Iger and myself – she playfully remarked. This memory stands out as it coincided with my audition for Hannah Montana. A sense of excitement filled the Burbank Disney office, a place where Disney stars like me are said to have originated. Contrary to any speculations about being manufactured in a lab, I’m a genuine human, and if I were, there seems to have been an error in the system around 2013-2016. My apologies, Mickey!

Cyrus reminisced about the steps leading up to getting the role and shooting the initial episodes of the program, during which she had to deliver musical acts as her pop star persona, even though she wasn’t recognized yet by the public.

“She remembered that her first free concert took place at the Glendale mall, where tickets were distributed. The opening song she performed was called ‘This is the Life.’ At the time, she was actually a young girl wearing a blonde wig in the mall, harboring a big dream. Yet, in her heart, she felt like Hannah Montana and took great pride in that role.”

Cyrus went on saying, “Things are somewhat different yet exactly the same since that day. I’m still as proud to have been Hannah Montana because she shaped me in countless ways. This accolade is for Hannah and her fantastic, devoted fans, and everyone who turned my dream into a reality. As the iconic figure once said, this is living the dream.”

Additionally, Colleen Atwood, Angela Bassett, Martha Blanding, James L. Brooks, James Cameron, Jamie Lee Curtis, Steve Ditko, Harrison Ford, Mark Henn, Frank Oz, Kelly Ripa, Joe Rohde, and John Williams were also given accolades during the event.
