As a dedicated follower and fan of Indian cinema, I have to say that witnessing Deepika Amin’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. From sharing the stage with Shah Rukh Khan in theater days to playing his mother in Fan, her career trajectory is a testament to talent, adaptability, and versatility.
Deepika Amin, an actress known for films such as Raanjhanaa, Fan, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, has gained widespread recognition lately. In the 2016 movie, Fan, she portrayed Shah Rukh Khan’s mother on screen. Recalling her experience, Amin shared that they had worked together during their theater days. Despite being younger than SRK, Amin was initially taken aback when offered the role of his mother in Maneesh Sharma’s directorial venture.
In a recent conversation with Rajshri Unplugged, Deepika Amin candidly shared her initial shock upon landing the part as Shah Rukh Khan’s mother in the movie “Fan.”
Amin found herself thinking back to the telephone conversation with the producers who extended the acting opportunity to her. Reflecting on it, she remembered pondering over their potential partnership in stage productions and had some reservations about portraying his mother at first.
In a conversation, the actress from Fan movie shared her thoughts: “I’ve worked in theater with Shah Rukh Khan, but he’s older than me. I wonder how I could portray his mother in a movie.”
Later on, Deepika Amin discovered that SRK had two roles, one being Aryan Khanna and the other Gaurav Chandna in the movie Fan. She was given the opportunity to portray the mother of his younger character, Gaurav. Amin mentioned that the producers were aiming to cast adults who fit the age bracket for Gaurav. The actress chose to accept the role as she felt it was a good fit for her.
Reflecting on the sets of Fan, Deepika Amin looked back on the moment when she crossed paths with Shah Rukh Khan after a while. She commended his vibrant energy by stating that he consistently greets her with warmth and affection. Filming for Fan was an enjoyable experience, she concluded.
Reflecting back on our time together during the Delhi shoot, my old theater companions and I reminisced about past memories. For those who may not know, approximately two decades ago, I had the privilege of working alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Barry John’s esteemed theater group, under the guidance of Deepika Amin.
In terms of his career, Shah Rukh Khan is currently preparing for the movie directed by Sujoy Ghosh titled “King”. This upcoming production also features Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Abhay Verma, who rose to fame in “Munjya”.
