ABC Names Second Black ‘Bachelor’ for Season 29

As a seasoned gamer of reality TV shows, I must say that the recent announcements about the new seasons of The Bachelor and its spin-offs have certainly piqued my interest. It’s refreshing to see such diversity in the leads, with Grant Ellis and Joan Vassos stepping up to hand out roses next year.

The Bachelor has revealed its next lead.

Thirty-year-old Grant Ellis, who previously competed on this season’s The Bachelorette, has been chosen as the rose distributor for the upcoming 29th season of ABC’s popular reality dating show.

As I’m wrapping up another exciting episode of “The Bachelorette” featuring Jenn Tran on Monday night, I can’t help but feel thrilled! It turns out that this season is drawing in an average of 2.38 million viewers at its premiere, marking a nearly 15% increase compared to the same period last year. I can hardly wait to see what unfolds next!

In week six, I found myself eliminated from Tran’s exciting odyssey. Now, as a former pro basketball player and day trader from New Jersey, I can’t wait to embark on a new adventure brimming with romance, thrill, and genuine bonds. I long to discover a companion who aligns with my core values of loyalty, wit, and an authentic love for life’s modest delights – as shared in ABC’s announcement.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to be stepping into the limelight as the first Asian American lead on this long-running reality show. It feels incredible to be part of the ongoing effort to diversify the cast, an initiative that gained momentum with Matt James being the first Black Bachelor in 2021 during season 25. This move followed Rachel Lindsay’s groundbreaking role as the franchise’s first Black lead in 2017. More recently, Michelle Young and Charity Lawson have been shining examples of inclusivity on the female-led series. I’m honored to carry this torch and contribute to a more diverse and inclusive landscape for future seasons.

“Bennett Graebner, the franchise executive producer, stated to the Los Angeles Times that it required considerable effort to reach a point where they can say they’re contributing something beneficial again.”

The Bachelor will return in 2025 on ABC and Hulu. A premiere date has yet to be announced.

The upcoming installment in the “Bachelor” franchise is titled the “Golden Bachelorette,” featuring Joan Vassos, aged 61, embarking on a quest for love starting September 18th. Vassos heads the first-ever senior spinoff as the lead, following the success of the initial “Golden Bachelor” season with Gerry Turner. Notably, Vassos’ participation in the “Golden Bachelor” was prematurely ended; she chose to withdraw during week three due to a health issue concerning her daughter.

As a devoted fan, I was deeply moved by the latest sneak peek featuring Vassos, whose cherished husband succumbed to pancreatic cancer after three decades of marriage. Before embarking on her new season, she was seen spending precious moments with her beloved family. Speaking candidly about her preferences, she shared, “I’m quite selective when it comes to a man embodying gentlemanly qualities.” She went on to express her ideal mate as someone who possesses a vast heart, exhibits generosity, and maintains humility too.

Summer spinoff series Bachelor in Paradise will also return for its 10th season in 2025.

The reality TV show “The Bachelor” is jointly produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television and Warner Horizon. Claire Freeland, Bennett Graebner, Tim Warner, and Peter Gust serve as its executive producers.
