As a lifelong Alien fanatic who’s been waiting for a worthy addition to this legendary franchise since James Cameron’s seminal sequel, I must say that my experience with ALIEN: ROMULUS was nothing short of exhilarating!
Fede Álvarez’s long-awaited movie titled “Alien: Romulus” was unveiled to the public on Monday night following the world premiere of the 20th Century Studios film in Los Angeles, and initial responses have already surfaced online.
In this new chapter of the iconic Alien series, titled Romulus, we find ourselves between the narrative arcs of Ridley Scott’s 1979 film, Alien, and James Cameron’s 1986 sequel, Aliens. This eighth installment follows a group of young colonists as they stumble upon an abandoned spacecraft and face the chilling terror of the franchise’s infamous extraterrestrial creature. The film features Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, and Spike Fearn in leading roles.
The film is produced by Scott, Michael Pruss and Walter Hill.
Initially, the movie “Romulus” was planned for a release on Hulu, similar to Dan Trachtenberg’s critically acclaimed prequel to “Predator”, titled “Prey” (2022). However, during the early stages of filming, the studio decided to change course and opted for a theatrical release instead. As Álvarez shared with The Hollywood Reporter in a detailed interview in March, the studio said, “Let’s just go ahead and release it in theaters.”
Romulus releases wide in theaters on Aug. 16.
Despite the official reviews for the movie “Romulus” coming out on Wednesday, here’s a sneak peek at some early reactions following Monday evening’s premiere.
The Alien film exhibits all the classic elements of an Alien movie, yet manages to avoid feeling like it’s merely catering to nostalgia or fan service. Instead, it takes a wildly original turn. Director Fede Alvarez and the cast have created this summer’s standout movie.

As a lifelong fan of the Alien franchise, I must say that Romulus has left me absolutely astounded. This movie offers a fresh take on horror, suspense, and visuals without resorting to excessive blood and gore. It masterfully captures the spirit of the original films, transporting me back to my younger days when I first watched Ridley Scott’s iconic masterpiece.

The movie ROMULUS emphasizes its scary roots to create a heart-pounding, intense experience that gradually picks up speed until you’re left breathless at the end. It lacks deeper meaning but includes plenty of hints, references, and suspenseful moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

For the first time in any Alien film, Alien Romulus left me feeling genuinely scared. Character Rain, played by Cailee Spaeny, makes for an intriguing companion on this adventure, and director Fede Álvarez keeps you guessing about where Romulus might lead next. The third act takes a wild turn that I found myself enjoying immensely. I’m a big fan…

Alien: Romulus – A Slow Build-Up Leading to Pure Terror in the Final Act, Sharing Certain Elements with Previous Fede Alvarez Productions. It Delivers Some Unexpected Twists and References, Indeed. The Facehuggers Were Particularly Unsettling, Though That May Be Due to My Arachnophobia.#AlienRomulusParaphrase

The movie ROMULUS feels more like a nostalgic tribute to past events, with moments of intense excitement, yet it lacks the unique, eccentric, and thought-provoking elements that this franchise is known for. In fact, it seems to be the most ordinary, uninteresting, and bland installment in the series so far. Personally, I didn’t find it very appealing.

As a longtime fan of the Alien franchise, I have to say that Prometheus: ROMULUS left me with mixed feelings. Having grown up watching the original films and being captivated by their blend of horror, suspense, and science fiction, my expectations were high for this prequel.

As a diehard Alien fan, let me tell you, ROMULUS has been the most outstanding Alien film since James Cameron’s Aliens. It masterfully bridges the terrifying sci-fi horror of Ridley Scott’s original with the pulse-pounding action of the sequel. With each passing scene, it only gets more exhilarating, leading up to a jaw-dropping final act that solidifies Fede Álvarez as a director who never shies away from pushing boundaries and delivering the unexpected.

I find ROMULUS to be exhilarating, petrifying, awe-inspiring, and indelible. Fede Alvarez is among my preferred filmmakers, and he certainly did not fail to impress. It’s truly disgusting… yet incredibly captivating!

The enigmatic Romulus from another world offers a thrilling yet familiar experience, reminiscent of video game levels, theme park ride intros, or Halloween haunted house mazes. However, the character development fell flat for me, and I’m usually quite receptive to it. In essence, it doesn’t seem tailored to my preferences.

Feeding Alvarez’s #AlienRomulus project is intense, captivating, and stunningly bleak (from its narrative to Olivares’ cinematography, Wallfisch’s music). It innovatively serves up intelligent, clever content with subtle nods to classic elements. Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson are the ones in control here, making this a fantastic project! This is truly impressive!

In the realm of sci-fi thrillers, Alien: Resurrection by Fede Alvarez kept me utterly gripped with its nail-biting suspense. As a devoted fan, I must say that he nailed it, exceeding all expectations. Introducing fresh aspects and unexpected twists, this film has injected a renewed energy into the Alien series, and it’s shaping up to be one of the franchise’s finest moments.

Title Character Romulus from Alien: Covenant struggles with defining its unique identity amidst influences from Ridley Scott’s prequels and the first two films. At times it delivers a grotesque, twisted narrative, while at others it falls short, but Fede Alvarez’s gritty, filthy set design offers the most intense, unclean entry in the series to date!

#AlienRomulus IS F%&KIN PHENOMENAL!!
Fede Alvarez cleverly crafted a story weaving in the best elements from ALL the past movies. Perfect balance of Horror & Action. Breathtaking visuals! Spaeny & Jonsson are the MVPs. AND MY GOD THAT 3RD ACT🔥Favorite movie of the year so far!!— Cris Parker (@3CFilmss) August 13, 2024
“Alien: Romulus, orchestrated by @fedalvar, delivers a chilling sci-fi horror experience we’ve long anticipated! By returning to the franchise’s origins, it instills fear like never before. Each scene is an adrenaline rush, exceeding all expectations for an Alien film and then some. Hands down, the best Alien movie yet!”

The film “AlienRomulus” delivers on action and suspense, masterfully crafted by director Fede Álvarez. Despite a few jarring jump scares and unnecessary references to the series, it offers numerous exciting sequences that are hard to resist. Moreover, David Jonsson’s performance is exceptional and truly shines in this production.

In this sci-fi franchise, Alien: Romulus stands out as an exceptional addition, offering a gripping, nerve-wracking, and chaotic narrative skillfully crafted with top-notch technical finesse. The acting is superb, the sound design is mind-blowing, making it a must-watch in cinemas.

In the film “AlienRomulus,” while it may not fundamentally alter the formula, it boasts two crucial assets: Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson. Director Fede Álvarez skillfully guides the franchise back to its terrifying origins, offering one of the most heart-stopping final acts in any Alien film.

Romulus” reminds me of a best-of collection from the series; there isn’t much fresh content (apart from [REDACTED], which I adore!), but what is presented is executed exceptionally well. The creature effects are unsettling, the visuals and sound design are stunning, and both Spaeny and Jonsson deliver strong performances. I’m really excited about it!
