A Big Swathe Of Kelly Clarkson's Fanbase Is Upset Over How Her Kellyoke Covers Are Finally Being Released

As a devoted Kelly Clarkson fan who has been following her career since “American Idol,” I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and disappointment over the recent news about where we can access her Kellyoke covers. On one hand, it’s fantastic that these covers will finally have their own home on SiriusXM’s Clarkson Connection channel. Her unique interpretations of popular songs are always a treat, and I’m looking forward to hearing more of them in this context.

In 2019, when Kelly Clarkson launched her own talk show, it didn’t signal an end to her singing career. Instead, each episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” begins with her doing karaoke covers, affectionately known as Kellyoke, of popular tunes that seem like pure gold when they come out of her mouth. Recently, these Kellyoke covers have been released for listening, but fans are expressing their disappointment about where and how easily they can access the songs.

One delightful feature of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” is “Kellyoke,” where you get a mini-concert with your favorite songs performed live by the pop star herself. You might think these covers are exclusively available on the NBC series or through YouTube clips, but Kelly Clarkson recently revealed the fresh venue for her cover performances via a tweet.

Here it is! Starting November 2023, you’ll be able to listen to Kellyoke covers on Kelly Clarkson’s new SiriusXM channel, known as the “Clarkson Connection.” This radio station, launched by the “Breakaway” singer, serves as a platform for her to share favorite tracks from artists who have inspired her and stories behind some of her most memorable songs.

As a long-time music enthusiast who has been following Kellyoke since her early days on YouTube, I must admit that I was thrilled to hear about her new release on SiriusXM. However, as someone who doesn’t subscribe to their service, I can’t help but feel a little left out of the excitement. JaviHA92’s suggestion for Kellyoke covers to be released elsewhere resonated with me, given my own struggles with accessing music content through various platforms. It’s important that we consider the needs and experiences of all fans, not just those who can afford subscriptions. Let’s find a way to make Kellyoke’s music accessible to everyone!

We need them on Spotify 🥺🙏

It’s clear that top Kellyoke covers should be accessible on Spotify given its massive user base – last quarter alone, it added 10 million paid subscribers, bringing its total to 236 million. In contrast, SiriusXM reported a decline of 94,000 radio subscribers. Given Spotify’s popularity as a streaming platform, it seems logical for her songs to be featured on her own SiriusXM channel.

Nevertheless, fans remain displeased, as it has been shared by @thatssodavid_ that the selected location for the songs encounters yet another challenge.

And nothing for international fans as always 😒

Based on information from SiriusXM’s official website, the online radio streaming service can only be accessed in the United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Canada through SiriusXM Canada Inc. This implies that fans residing outside these regions may unfortunately not get to enjoy remastered versions of songs such as Katy Perry’s cover of “Wide Awake”, her rendition of Keith Urban’s “Somebody Like You”, or numerous Miley Cyrus covers offered by SiriusXM.

@AlishaE51871958 gave a mixed reaction to the Kellyoke release news too, writing:

So cool and awesome! I am little bummed out because I can’t get it.

As a devoted fan of SiriusXM, I’m ecstatic about the fantastic news! Kelly Clarkson’s captivating covers are now even more accessible, and it’s long overdue that The Kellyokes have their own dedicated space after years on the talk show. However, this also means that some die-hard fans might miss out if they don’t subscribe to her radio station.

Following the “Stronger” artist’s Instagram post, @marcoasxd made a similar comment, echoing the urgent plea shared by X number of users.

Release them on Spotify as well!

I’m really disappointed that The Clarkson Connection isn’t available on Spotify, considering the numerous popular Spotify podcasts that could greatly benefit from music streaming. As a non-SiriusXM subscriber seeking these new tunes, Instagram user @lisajefferysphotography offers a straightforward solution: find alternative ways to access them.

This alone is a reason to subscribe to Sirius. Her covers are amazing. Agree with other comments, release them everywhere! They deserve to be heard again and again.

Though some Kelly Clarkson fans might find it disappointing that her Kellyoke cover songs are moving to SiriusXM, on the bright side, satellite radio subscribers can now enjoy these refurbished covers. In fact, considering they could have gone unreleased, this is a positive outcome.

It’s anticipated that even more Kellyoke performances will feature in season six of The Kelly Clarkson Show, set to debut on television schedules later this autumn. In the meantime, fans can enjoy past episodes by subscribing to Peacock.
