Kylie Jenner Reveals Why She Didn’t Like Their Reality Show Being Called Keeping Up With The Kardashians And Why Mom Kris Was Adamant About The Name

As someone who grew up watching every episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, I can wholeheartedly appreciate the strategic brilliance behind Kris Jenner’s decision to include “Kardashian” in the title. It was like she knew that the mere mention of that name would be enough to captivate audiences and keep the family on top for years to come.

As a devoted gamer, I can’t help but bring up the Kardashian-Jenner clan when discussing reality TV. Back in 2007, they catapulted into stardom with the premiere of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” and to this very day, they continue to dominate the small screen and are recognized globally as some of the most famous faces on the planet. I still recall when my mom, Kris Jenner, broke the news about the show to us kids, and believe it or not, Kylie Jenner and her sister Kendall had reservations about the name – although it wasn’t for the reason you might assume. Regardless, Kris Jenner was firm on the title of the show, and Kylie shared her reasons behind the choice.

At age 9, Kylie Jenner first appeared on the set of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” In a conversation with British Vogue, she shared insights about her childhood, confessing that she can’t recall a life without cameras, lights, and paparazzi. Despite this, she vividly remembers feeling uncomfortable with the name of the E! reality show. Kylie expressed that she wasn’t fond of the title.

As a longtime fan of reality television, I vividly recall the day my mom walked into our living room and announced the title of a new show that would forever change the landscape of pop culture: Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Being only teenagers at the time, Kendall and I couldn’t help but be skeptical about the idea of our family’s name being so prominently displayed in the title of a television show. However, my mother was adamant that this move was crucial for establishing our family’s presence in the entertainment industry and ensuring that we could never be easily replaced.

It’s intriguing to consider what thoughts might have gone through Kendall and Kylie Jenner’s minds about their absence from the show and being associated primarily with the “Kardashian” label, especially since Kendall has a strong connection with her Jenner relatives. However, it appears that the prolonged title was the real concern for the Jenner sisters rather than the “Kardashian” part.

It’s typical of Kris Jenner to plan ahead in order to secure Kim Kardashian’s (and their collective) continued relevance in pop culture. The name of the reality show might seem like a significant commitment, but remember that before Keeping Up with the Kardashians, two of Kris’ step-sons, Brandon and Brody Jenner, were on The Princes of Malibu. That show didn’t run for long, but imagine swapping out the Jenners for another affluent family from Southern California – it wouldn’t have been difficult at all, would it?

As a gamer, I must admit my limited insight doesn’t extend to Kris Jenner’s mind during her ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ battles. Yet, from where I stand, her strategic moves were nothing short of genius – a masterstroke I couldn’t help but admire.

As a long-time fan of reality TV, I wholeheartedly concur with Kylie and Kendall Jenner’s sentiment that “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” is quite the tongue twister. However, I believe that this very quirkiness is part of its genius – it’s a name that stands out and sticks in people’s minds.

Nowadays, the Kardashian-Jenner family maintains their relevance without resorting to tricks, and thankfully, their Hulu series has been streamlined to just be titled “The Kardashians“. When discussing one of the world’s most recognized families, a simple name is all that’s necessary.

The Kardashians is available to stream with a Hulu subscription.
