Awara Paagal Deewana 2: Vikram Bhatt says he ‘didn’t wish’ to direct Akshay Kumar-led sequel of his film: ‘I’m not in that place…’

As a lifestyle expert with a rich background in Bollywood, I must say that it’s intriguing to witness the revival of some iconic films and their sequels. The news about the upcoming Awara Paagal Deewana 2 and Kasoor sequel has surely sparked excitement among fans who enjoyed these movies back in the day.

2002’s “Awara Paagal Deewana” was among the early successes for director Vikram Bhatt. The film featured Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Aftab Shivdasani, Johnny Lever, Preeti Jhangiani, Aarti Chhabria, Amrita Arora, and Rahul Dev in key roles. Recently, TopMob announced that a follow-up to this movie is currently being developed.

It’s also being whispered that Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi might be part of the sequel as well. Interestingly, the director from the first installment, Bhatt, won’t be back for this version, and he himself has confirmed this in an interview with News18 Showsha.

Regarding APD, I’d like to extend my warmest wishes to Firoz Nadiadwala (producer). To be honest, I wouldn’t want to be working on the sequel of Awara Paagal Deewana at this moment. My thoughts and mindset have shifted over the years. That movie was made in 2002, and here we are, 22 years later. I’ve evolved as a person, and many things have changed along the way.

Apart from Awara Paagal Deewana, another sequel to Vikram Bhatt’s film Kasoor, a psychological thriller, is currently being developed. This movie, released in 2001, was Lisa Ray’s debut and Aftab Shivdasani’s second major screen appearance. Although it wasn’t a box office success, the film remains notable for its soundtrack.

A follow-up to the film “Kasoor” is currently being produced, marking Aftab’s return to Bollywood. Unlike the original, Vikram is not directing this sequel and Vishesh Films is not financing it. When asked about the project, Mahesh Bhatt expressed confusion, stating, “I’m unsure about the ‘Kasoor’ sequel. I believe someone else is making it, under Mukesh Bhatt’s ownership. I’m not sure how that person obtained the title. I wish them luck with their production.”

In addition to Kasoor’s cast, Urvashi Rautela and Punjabi sensation Jassie Gill have been added. Glen Barretto is set to direct this production, with Mudassar Aziz handling the scriptwriting duties. Asif Shaikh will bankroll the project, while Bablu Aziz will present it. Notably, Adnan Sami will make his return to Bollywood after a 9-year absence as he contributes to Kasoor’s music album, which is being overseen by Javed Mohsin.

Fun fact, did you realize that Emraan Hashmi had a role as an assistant director for the film “Kasoor” under Mohit Suri’s direction, long before he made his acting debut?

Regarding him, Vikram mentioned in the same interview that “He served as an Assistant Director (AD) for only ten days. He’s generally reserved. He was younger than me by several years. It wasn’t like we were friends and I could see a different side of me. Instead, people like Mohit Suri can attest to that. However, I recall dubbing lines for him in the movie Footpath since he didn’t know how to dub. He told me that if he attempted to dub, it would negatively impact his performance.”

In terms of upcoming projects, Akshay Kumar has quite a few films lined up ahead. You’ll soon find him in Housefull 5, Welcome To The Jungle, Hera Pheri 3, Jolly LLB 3, Sky Force, Shankara, and Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat, among others. After a string of 10 consecutive failures, the actor is optimistic about making a comeback with his next film Khel Khel Mein.

Over the upcoming Independence Day holiday, a humorous movie will be launched featuring Vaani Kapoor, Aditya Seal, Ammy Virk, Taapsee Pannu, Fardeen Khan, and Pragya Jaiswal in significant parts. This film is a re-imagining of the 2016 Italian hit “Perfect Strangers.” As it hits theaters, it will compete with “Stree 2” starring Shraddha Kapoor and “Vedaa” featuring John Abraham at the box office.
