Drake Bell Reveals Whether He’d Be Up For A Drake And Josh Reboot In The Aftermath Of Quiet On Set

As a child of the 2000s, I vividly remember the joy that shows like Drake & Josh brought to my after-school hours. The hilarious antics of Drake and Josh, along with their mischievous little sister Megan, were a staple in my household. So, when I heard Drake Bell‘s thoughts on potentially rebooting the show, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation.

Nickelodeon provided endless entertainment for kids born in the 2000s (including myself), through an array of engaging Nicktoons and live-action shows. One of these live-action series was Drake & Josh, which still enjoys popularity today. Over time, fans have pondered if a reboot might happen. Recently, Drake Bell, one of the show’s main characters, shared his thoughts on resurrecting the characters he and Josh Peck brought to life so many years ago. Following his recent participation in the docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, Bell has some intriguing opinions to share.

Over the past few years, Hollywood has been producing remakes, continuations, and new series based on old favorites at a regular pace. Just like many other studios, Paramount, which manages Nickelodeon, has jumped on this bandwagon too. In 2021, they brought back the popular show iCarly, gathering most of the original cast members for a comeback. More recently, in 2023, they released the sequel movie of Zoey 101, titled Zoey 102. When asked about the possibility of a reunion for Drake & Josh by Patriot-News, Drake Bell shared that he’s open to working with Josh Peck again, but not necessarily through a traditional revival.

I’m open to the idea, as we’ve discussed it before. However, when everyone was jumping on the reboot bandwagon, I felt hesitant. It seems like, “Sure, let’s do a reboot because everyone is doing reboots.” If we decide to move forward, I believe it should be something unique and impactful. Instead of just another reboot, let’s make it memorable and exciting!

Originally stemming from “The Amanda Show,” the television series “Drake & Josh” featured Josh Peck and Drake Bell as step brothers with contrasting personalities. This show was among the numerous productions of former Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider, debuting in 2004. The multi-camera sitcom gained popularity throughout its run, earning acclaim for the acting talents of Bell, Peck, and young Miranda Cosgrove, who portrayed their mischievous little sister, Megan. In 2007, the series concluded after four seasons, but it reappeared in late 2008 as a holiday TV movie titled “Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh.”

It’s not hard to see why the voice actor behind Ultimate Spider-Man might feel uncertain about a direct reboot. Given what he expressed, it seems that many creators are currently opting for this approach. However, during an interview, he shared his preference for a different type of project for him and his on-screen brother to work on next.

As a fan, I have to admit, I’m not sure I’d relish the idea of us portraying characters from another show or having our sister Meg join in. Fortunately for us, we’re still able to play Drake and Josh. However, I think it could be even more entertaining if we ventured into other buddy comedy territories instead. Something unexpected and fresh might really grab people’s attention.

Following my recent interview on “Quiet on Set,” I felt compelled to share more about my personal journey. The five-part documentary on Investigation Discovery, where child stars spoke up about their experiences under Dan Schneider’s leadership at Nickelodeon, served as a platform for me. I bravely revealed that at the age of 15, I was sexually abused by my former dialogue coach, Brian Peck, who was subsequently convicted on two counts of lewd conduct with a minor. Since the documentary’s release, I’ve continued to speak out, even disclosing that I read the supportive letters from celebrities sent to Peck during his trial in the early 2000s.

Over the past period, Josh Peck has reached out to his former co-star Drake Bell, offering comfort following Bell’s disclosures about sexual assault. It’s sad that their conversations have been prompted by such a distressing situation. Nevertheless, it appears that Bell values these discussions and there seems to be a possibility of another collaboration between the two. Whether they will reunite for a new show remains uncertain at this stage, but I would certainly enjoy watching it if they do.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that I can now binge-watch all four seasons of the hilarious “Drake & Josh” series on Paramount+, thanks to my subscription! If you’re intrigued by the behind-the-scenes of children’s television, don’t forget to check out “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” – it’s exclusively available for streaming with a Max subscription. Enjoy the shows!
