Ryan Reynolds Reacts to the Deadpool and It Ends With Us Box Office Shakeup

As a movie reviewer with a soft spot for dynamic duos and heartwarming stories, I must say I was thoroughly captivated by the recent box office face-off between Ryan Reynolds and his lovely wife, Blake Lively. Their latest projects, “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “It Ends With Us,” have proven to be formidable opponents, each claiming victory at different moments.

Ryan Reynolds is supporting his wife, Blake Lively, even amidst their on-screen competition. Reynolds features in Shawn Levy’s highly anticipated film, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” while Lively headlines the romantic drama, “It Ends With Us.” Recently, Reynolds spoke with Willie Geist on “Sunday Today” about his father’s Parkinson’s diagnosis and the upcoming “Deadpool” sequel. During the interview, Geist broached the topic of the ongoing box-office rivalry between them.

As a cinephile who’s deeply invested in both our personal lives and professional careers, I found myself in an intriguing situation: a harmonious marriage alongside a fierce rivalry at work. In the heat of the moment, I couldn’t help but ask, “Did I manage to outshine you that significantly at the box office?”

Reynolds responded:

In the realm of cinematic analysis, I must confess, there has only been one instance where I found myself yearning for runner-up status. Yet, upon reflection, I believe this is a testament to a robust relationship – a bond that Blake and I share. Consistently, we find joy in seeing each other excel, a steadfast constant in our unique connection.

On July 26, the joint appearance of Deadpool and Wolverine was released, raking in over $1.1 billion globally. The upcoming installments of Deadpool, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, are sequels to both Deadpool and Deadpool 2. In this film, Deadpool is offered a spot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by the Time Variance Authority, but instead chooses to enlist a variant of Wolverine to prevent his universe from destruction. Meanwhile, Lively’s It Ends With Us, based on Colleen Hoover’s novel, debuted on August 9 and has provided stiff competition for Reynold’s recent work. During the weekend of August 9, Deadpool & Wolverine took the top spot with $53 million, while It Ends With Us came in second with an impressive $50 million. However, things changed by Monday, and It Ends With Us started to claim the leading position.

The movie starring Deadpool and Wolverine has been generally well-received, and the strong ticket sales show a massive fan enthusiasm. In conversation with Geist, Ryan Reynolds spoke about the film’s response.

“A week ago, I strolled through New York City with Hugh, an experience that was electrifying! It seemed as if we had rescued a baby from a blazing building or done something equally heroic. The reaction to the movie was overwhelming; it brought out immense amounts of love, joy, and happiness in people. This is what I’m most proud of.”

In the movie “It Ends With Us,” starring Blake Lively alongside Justin Baldoni (who also directs), and Brandon Sklenar, we find a captivating romantic drama. This tale is loosely based on Hoover’s parents and revolves around Lily Bloom (Lively), a woman who triumphs over her troubled childhood to start anew in Boston and pursue her lifelong ambition of launching her own business. In the bustling city, she encounters and falls for a neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid. However, their relationship faces challenges that compel Lily to rely on her inner fortitude. Lively recently shared with E! News how she and Reynolds celebrate each other’s achievements in life.

“Together, we share responsibilities. Whatever task I undertake, he assists me, and vice versa. We both rejoice in our individual victories, as they are shared accomplishments.”

Although the film adaptation of “It Ends With Us” hasn’t been universally acclaimed by critics, as indicated by its 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it has struck a chord with audiences. People are captivated by Blake Lively’s flower-inspired red carpet looks promoting the movie, and they’re also intrigued by the behind-the-scenes drama surrounding the film. Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have been married since 2012 and together they have four children. This duo’s box office success echoes a similar achievement seen 30 years ago when another power couple reigned at the box office. Back in 1990, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore topped the charts with “Die Hard” (in the number one spot) and “Ghost”.
