People We Meet On Vacation: What We Know About The Next Emily Henry Movie Adaptation

As someone who has spent countless hours engrossed in the enchanting world of literature and film, I must say that the upcoming adaptation of Emily Henry’s “People We Meet on Vacation” has me positively thrilled! Having read the book myself, I can attest to the captivating chemistry between Alex and Poppy, a dynamic that left me laughing out loud one moment, and tearing up the next.

It seems you believed that we had finished interpreting Emily Henry’s books? However, you were incorrect, as we now have a new one on the horizon – “People We Meet on Vacation.”

Indeed, we’ve been working diligently on this for a while now, but fortunately, we’ve gathered some additional details to pass along to you. For those unaware, Emily Henry is a renowned romance author whose works are currently captivating readers everywhere. And yes, “People We Meet on Vacation” has certainly earned its place among the growing list of upcoming book-to-screen adaptations.

But what is this movie going to be about? And who is going to star? This is what we know so far.

What Is The People We Meet On Vacation Release Date?

By August 2024, there hasn’t been a definitive release date announced for “People We Meet on Vacation,” which isn’t unexpected given that the main actors were only recently chosen. As we’ll discuss further ahead.

The film was confirmed to be happening way back in October 2022 on Henry’s Instagram page, but only just now is it moving forward at Netflix with two of the main stars – so don’t expect it to be on any 2024 movie schedule.

To put it simply, don’t worry too much about it. There are still lots of great films coming out this year, both in cinemas and on Netflix. So, I believe we’ll have plenty to watch. In fact, there’s a chance we might get the movie next year, which could be a good thing.

The People We Meet On Vacation Cast

Although the cast for “People We Meet on Vacation” wasn’t officially announced earlier, it has now been revealed by Tudum who will portray our lead characters.

Emily Bader as Poppy

Emily Bader is set to portray Poppy in “People We Meet on Vacation,” a character we follow through the narrative. Lately, Bader has been garnering much attention due to her performance in the Amazon Prime series, “My Lady Jane.” Additionally, she has acted in two other films: “Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin,” one of the “Paranormal Activity” series, and “Fresh Kills.”

Beyond this, she has appeared as a special guest on numerous series including Henry Danger, Game Shakers, and Charmed.

Tom Blyth as Alex

Tom Blyth is set to portray Alex, the other character in “People We Meet on Vacation.” If his name rings a bell for those who’ve been keeping up with recent cinema releases, Blyth was one of the lead actors in “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” where he took on the role of a young Coriolanus Snow.

Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that Blyth has graced the screen in productions like “Benediction” and “Scott and Sid”, as well as various short films. The talented actor took on a leading role in the MGM+ series “Billy the Kid” and made an appearance in “The Gilded Age” on HBO.

To be frank, it’s fantastic that these two are the leads, and Netflix posted an adorable video on Twitter showing their reactions to the casting news.

In the Tudum piece, the author expressed how she frequently revisited their dynamic between them, finding her feelings toward them changed with each reread: their chemistry captivated her over and over.

I observed them interact four times over a span of twelve hours, and my admiration for it grew with each viewing. The initial encounter left me in stitches, while by the conclusion I found myself moved to tears.

Well, now I’m even more excited.

What Is People We Meet On Vacation About?

People We Meet On Vacation: What We Know About The Next Emily Henry Movie Adaptation

In my previous discussion, I shared that the film version of “People We Meet on Vacation” is derived from Emily Henry’s book with the same title. This captivating novel made its debut in 2021 and quickly climbed to the top of the New York Times bestseller list. As per Tudum, over two million copies have been sold, making it Henry’s most successful work – an impressive achievement considering that many of her other books are also being adapted!

The story in this book unfolds around Alex and Poppy, childhood buddies who bonded during their summer vacations despite having distinct personalities. As they grow older, certain events on particular journeys gradually alter their friendship dynamics. After a span of two years without communication, they opt for one final trip together, which sets off a chain of events from then onwards.

Based on this idea from the novel, it could make a wonderful foundation for a delightful romantic comedy film. Could it become one of the greatest romantic comedies ever made? We’ll have to wait and see.

People We Meet On Vacation Is Directed By Brett Haley

It has been confirmed by Tudum (previously announced in 2022) that Brett Haley will helm the film “People We Meet on Vacation.” Known for films like “Hearts Beat Loud” (notable as one of Nick Offerman’s finest performances, by the way), “All The Bright Places,” “All Together Now,” and others, this director is a well-respected figure in the movie industry.

Discovering that he will be starring in “People We Meet on Vacation” only heightens my anticipation for the upcoming adaptation.

There Are Several Other Emily Henry Books Getting Adaptations

Apart from the one already published, there are a few more Henry novels in progress. One is the forthcoming “Beach Read”, another is “Book Lovers”, and the most recent one is titled “Funny Story”.

Furthermore, Deadline reports that a TV series titled “Happy Place” is indeed coming to Netflix. This means you’ll have the pleasure of watching not just four movies but an entire television show as well.

Yes, this is Emily Henry domination and I’m not necessarily complaining.

“I can hardly wait to settle into my favorite spot on the couch, ready for a rollercoaster of emotions with laughter and tears, while watching ‘People We Meet on Vacation’.”
