Ahead Of Hosting A Mike’s Hard Lemonade Event, Lamorne Morris Tells Us Why Fargo Had Him Wanting A Drink At The End Of The Day

As a seasoned gamer and a fan of the arts, I can relate to Lamorne Morris‘ journey from working various jobs to finding success as an actor. His experiences, especially during his time on Fargo, resonate deeply with me, as I too have had moments where I felt overwhelmed by the challenges presented in both gaming and real life.

Before I became an actor like Lamorne Morris, I held numerous jobs – from stacking videos at rental stores to clearing tables at restaurants – jobs that on certain days left me yearning for a cold drink. Even while working on shows such as Fargo, there were times when I felt the same way. That’s why I was thrilled to collaborate with Mike’s Hard Lemonade and host their Jobstacle Course. This fresh, interactive event invites participants to discover firsthand just how challenging some “easy” jobs can truly be.

Speaking with Morris, famously recognized for his humorous role on the “New Girl” series, I inquired about his feelings regarding any instance from his acting career that made him feel overwhelmed, similar to the jobs depicted in Mike’s Jobstacle Course. Here’s what he responded:

In simpler terms, Fargo was a heavy role to play due to its intense subject matter involving abuse, which can be distressing for many viewers. Given my personal background and the setting I grew up in, it was particularly challenging. At times, I had to compartmentalize my work and unwind with a drink, knowing the need to remain mentally engaged while filming for several months. To avoid fully losing myself in the character, I kept a small piece of him within me. However, dwelling on such negative thoughts each night and waking up with them every now and then necessitated occasional breaks.

In the critically acclaimed fifth season of the FX crime series, Fargo, Morris takes on the role of Witt Farr, a performance that landed him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie in 2024. As a North Dakota State Trooper, he finds himself entangled in a baffling case when he encounters a seemingly ordinary housewife (portrayed by Juno Temple), who is desperately trying to escape her troubled past, amidst a volatile situation.

Considering the season’s focus on harmful masculinity and violence towards women, it’s not surprising that the role was emotionally challenging for everyone, including Morris. He himself admitted that it was also physically tough to film in subzero temperatures (-30 to -40 degrees Fahrenheit) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Under such harsh shooting conditions, I can’t help but think a Mike’s Hard Lemonade would be quite welcome.

I also jumped at the chance to mention Morris’ Instagram post from July 2024, in which he celebrated his Emmy nomination by thanking the Television Academy for recognizing his “hard work on New Girl.” While obviously a joke, I could not help but feel that Witt Farr and his hilarious New Girl character, Winston Bishop, were not so different, both being cops with a heart of gold. The actor agreed and even discussed how Winston’s caring demeanor resembles Witt’s selfish commitment to helping people in need.

For both performances, as with any occupation, there might have been instances where a break was needed for unwinding and relaxation, which could sometimes be achieved by enjoying a beverage.

If you run into Morris at 477 Broadway, New York City, on August 20, 2024, for the premiere of Mike’s Jobstacle Course between 2 and 8 p.m., consider treating him to a bottle on my tab. And don’t forget to watch out for more exciting projects from this gifted actor, like his role as Robbie Robertson in the upcoming Spider-Man TV series, Spider-Noir.
