'How Do I Say This Without Being Offensive To Anybody?': Eric Dane Gets Real About Will Smith And What It's Like Working With Him And Martin Lawrence On A Bad Boys Set

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest installment of the Bad Boys franchise, Ride or Die, has been a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions. Having grown up watching the original ’90s movies, it was surreal to see Eric Dane, best known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and The Last Ship, take on the antagonist role in this action-packed sequel.

The upcoming 2024 film lineup is brimming with action and tension, partially due to the exhilarating excitement provided by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah’s latest installment of the Bad Boys franchise. In this project, they collaborated with stars like Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, an experience that can be quite daunting on any day and seems almost legendary given its role in continuing a series that began as one of the ’90s most memorable movies. Eric Dane’s account of working with Smith and Lawrence on Ride or Die, regardless of where you stand on the “generational war,” is quite relatable.

During an interview with his co-star Jacob Elordi for Interview Magazine, Eric Dane talked about his role as James McGrath in the movie “Bad Boys: Ride or Die”. He wanted to avoid offending anyone while expressing his views. In the end, he found the entire experience to be intricate and made insightful comments regarding Will Smith too.

Alright mate, lemme tell ya, I ain’t got no intention of offendin’ nobody here, but let me share my two cents about that experience. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, those two are some cool cats, lemme tell ya! But shootin’ a Bad Boys movie, it’s a whole ‘nother ball game, mate. I ain’t sayin’ one is better than the other or more fulfillin’, just different strokes for different folks, if y’know what I mean? Will Smith, now that’s a guy you’d get along with real well, he’s solid gold, that fella. He’s an amazing actor, highly skilled, and let me tell ya, he’s got the talent to back it up. He’s committed to his craft, and I mean, he really cares about the project. He makes it better just by bein’ there, and I gotta say, it was a fantastic work environment.

Despite his intimidating presence in “Bad Boys 4”, it’s surprising to discover that he had specific cues for handling scenes of intense threats or physical violence, as portrayed in the show “Grey’s Anatomy“. Additionally, the accolades given by another television series alum, from “The Last Ship“, about Will Smith’s acting skills serve as further confirmation of the dedication and talent that has earned him an Academy Award.

As a devoted fan, I can understand why Eric Dane might be concerned about coming across as controlling or perfectionistic, given the meticulous nature of filmmaking could potentially fuel such assumptions. However, it appears that this isn’t an accurate portrayal of him, particularly since he takes immense pride in his work and has willingly watched the I Am Legend movie not once, but twice.

The actor who might take on the antagonist role in the potential “Bad Boys 5” could benefit from the insights of the star from “One Fast Move,” whose experience could prove valuable for any actor eager to portray a villain in such a project. With many actors looking forward to playing the bad guy, the seasoned actor’s advice could undoubtedly be beneficial for whoever steps into this role in the upcoming installment.

In any upcoming installment of the action-packed franchise produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, whoever steps into the role of the antagonist against Will Smith and his team will need to deliver an exceptional performance, considering this film series is already in its fifth round of intense chaos. It would be ideal if the person chosen for the villain’s role listens to Patrick Dempsey’s advice and embraces it wholeheartedly, should the movie come to fruition.

If you’re thinking about watching the latest “Bad Boys” film, whether you’ve seen it already or not, “Ride or Die” is currently available for rental or purchase via PVOD and Digital HD. However, if you haven’t caught up with “Bad Boys For Life”, you can stream it with a Hulu subscription. And let’s not forget that a Hulu membership also allows fans of “Grey’s Anatomy” to rewatch Eric Dane’s tenure on the popular ABC series, making it a double win for you!
