Imran Khan reveals why he chose to do only romantic movies in his 20s: ‘I didn’t entirely feel I could relate to...'

As a dedicated follower of Imran Khan’s career, I must admit that his journey in Bollywood has been nothing short of inspiring. His ability to connect deeply with stories about relationships and youthful aspirations is truly commendable, especially considering he couldn’t entirely relate to action-drama movies.

In 2008, Imran Khan, a well-known Bollywood actor, made his debut with the popular film “Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na,” swiftly gaining favor among viewers due to his endearing boy-next-door image. Known for his roles in successful romantic comedies such as “I Hate Luv Storys,” Imran also appeared in films like “Break Ke Baad” and “Gori Tere Pyaar Mein,” reinforcing his status as a relatable and captivating performer, particularly in characters that delve into the intricacies of relationships and young ambitions. Recently, the actor disclosed that he chose to act only in romantic films because he didn’t entirely identify with action-drama roles.

In a chat with Times of India, Imran revealed that during the early stages of his acting career, he found himself drawn to stories about relationships. After making a successful entry into films with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Imran starred in numerous romantic movies such as Break Ke Baad, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, and Gori Tere Pyar Mein. He admitted that during his twenties, he felt more connected to narratives about young individuals navigating life’s challenges. Moreover, Imran purposely collaborated with debutant directors as they shared a common perspective and style of storytelling. To summarize, Imran confessed that action-drama films didn’t resonate entirely with him at that time.

During a chat with India Today, the actor from Mere Brother Ki Dulhan was questioned if the recurring comparisons and rivalry with Ranbir Kapoor had ever caused him distress. He promptly stated that he didn’t buy into that part of it.

Imran stated that he found it unfortunate, as it left a bitter taste, because he had never seen it that way, and based on his discussions with Ranbir then, neither did he. Reflecting back, Imran remembered that Ranbir approached his work earnestly, was passionate about cinema, and had no interest in such competitive dynamics.

He added that this was just the kind of sensational content gossip magazines liked to discuss. However, since neither of them engaged in it, it didn’t affect their relationship. He further mentioned that whenever something unpleasant appeared in the media, they would reach out to each other to ensure everything was fine between them.
