The Muses of Artist JJ Manford Take Center Stage in ‘Fifth Season’

As a connoisseur of art who has traversed the globe to immerse myself in various artistic movements and styles, I must say that JJ Manford‘s new solo exhibition at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen is an absolute must-see for any discerning collector or enthusiast.

Artistic genius JJ Manford, hailing from the United States, is unveiling a fresh, one-man showcase of paintings at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen. Residing in Brooklyn, Manford has earned recognition for crafting lively interior scenes with oil stick on canvas that exude a tactile, dreamlike ambiance. These works reflect his diverse passions spanning travel, architecture, vintage furniture design from the mid-century era, and art history.

In the exhibit titled “Fifth Season“, Manford showcases 13 new artworks brimming with homages to numerous artistic and design legends who influence his work. His pieces incorporate elements from the bold graphic designs of Keith Haring, the PH5 hanging lamps of Poul Henningsen, sculptures by Asger Jorn, and Alexander Calder’s creations. Each artwork offers a blend of various objects, settings, and concepts.

Manford creates his interior scenes intuitively, rather than basing them directly on real-life settings or photographs. He explained in an interview that while his work may not be a direct representation of personal memories or places he has visited, these experiences seep into his unconscious and influence his art to some extent. Consequently, Manford avoids using highly descriptive imagery and instead trusts the direction his artistic instincts guide him.

The exhibition’s title reflects the influence of a poem by Etel Adnan, a Lebanese-American essayist, who penned: “I’m told there are four seasons, but I inhabit a fifth one – your realm and your moment.” As of now, Fifth Season is open for viewing in Copenhagen and will continue to be so until September 28, 2024.
