Ryan Reynolds Shares Deadpool Images Of Wesley Snipes’ Blade, And I’m Sold On His Idea For Bringing Him Back For One More Movie

As a long-time Marvel enthusiast with a soft spot for superhero sagas that strike the perfect balance of action and emotion, I can’t help but be thrilled at the prospect of Wesley Snipes reprising his iconic role as Blade one last time in Deadpool 3. The idea of giving him a Logan-esque sendoff is nothing short of genius – it would be a fitting tribute to an actor who has portrayed a superhero for the longest time and a character that has left such an indelible mark on the genre.

As someone who’s been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) journey for quite some time, it’s hard to miss the massive success of Deadpool and Wolverine, particularly after a few MCU missteps. The movie was packed with thrilling cameos, among which the return of Wesley Snipes as Blade stood out. Ryan Reynolds recently unveiled snippets of Snipes in Deadpool 3, and honestly, I’m all in for his vision of having him back for another film.

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s cast list included a number of familiar faces from 20th Century Fox’s superhero projects, and Wesley Snipes’ return as Blade thrilled fans. Reynolds shared some set photos and official images of Snipes on Instagram, as well as a killer idea for him to return: an emotional sendoff ala Logan. Check it out below:

Straight up, hand over the cash – Snipes has truly outdone himself for Deadpool 3, making him the actor who has portrayed a superhero the longest. Brilliantly, Ryan Reynolds came up with the idea of allowing him to bid farewell one last time in the role. We’ll simply have to keep our fingers crossed and see if Marvel decides to heed his advice.

Originally intended as Hugh Jackman’s farewell performance as Wolverine, the film “Logan” (available on Disney+) delivered an emotionally fulfilling ending when the protagonist, Logan, selflessly gave up his life to protect Dafne Keen’s character, Laura/X-23. It would be fantastic if Wesley Snipes could receive a similar sendoff in another “Blade” movie.

Of course, there is something standing in the way of Wesley Snipes getting his own Logan-style sendoff to the vampiric hero. Namely the MCU’s developing Blade movie, which will star Mahershala Ali as the title character. While that project has faced a number of delays over the years, the studio is seemingly still committed to bringing it to theaters. And as such, Kevin Feige and company might not be down to produce another Snipes Blade.

Developing the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Blade character is one of the main reasons that Wesley Snipes’ surprise appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine left audiences in theaters awestruck. However, when considering Ryan Reynolds’ suggestion for a Logan-esque ending to a movie with Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra, it truly seems like an amazing idea.

Although Mahershala Ali hasn’t made a physical appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, he was cast several years ago. In the credits scene of Eternals, his voice as Blade could be heard conversing with Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman. Sadly, there are currently no plans for an Eternals sequel, and the development of Blade has been stalled for a while.

Considering Wesley Snipes’ long-standing portrayal of Blade, it’d be wonderful if he were given a “Logan”-style sendoff in one final film. Perhaps this could also pave the way for Mahershala Ali to take over the role? As we keep our hopes high, let’s look forward to the 2025 movie release schedule.
