Stree 2 writer calls Sarkata 'most warped form of patriarchy’; says ghosts in Maddock Supernatural Universe are 'fallacies of our society'

As a dedicated follower of the intriguing world of Indian cinema, I find myself captivated by the thoughtful and symbolic character development in Stree 2. The introduction of Sarkata, the warped manifestation of patriarchy, is a bold and timely move that resonates deeply with my life experiences. It’s fascinating to see how the writers have woven societal issues into the fabric of their horror-comedy universe.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the latest installment, Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, is currently making waves at the box office. One of the main reasons for its success lies in the introduction of a new villain, Sarkata. In an intriguing interview, the writer of Stree 2 revealed that these fantastical characters in Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe serve as representations of different facets of society. Among them, Sarkata embodies the most twisted form of patriarchy.

During a chat with PTI, Bhatt acknowledged a frequent critique that their movies have an excess of comedy or lack sufficient terror. He further explained that every supernatural entity featured in the Maddock’s Supernatural Universe is a reflection of societal misconceptions and fallacies.

He continued by stating, “Sarkata represents an extreme version of patriarchy. Stree symbolizes matriarchy and should not be considered a witch. Bhediya serves as the guardian of the woods. The characters have been intentionally crafted in this manner. We’re not discussing supernatural elements or unforeseen spirits.”

In a separate chat with Bollywood Hungama, Niren delved into the development of Sarkata’s character. He shared that the idea stemmed from the damaged idols in a cave from the initial film, which had murals depicting Stree as a sex worker with a lover when she was younger. The lover was portrayed without a head, whether it was due to the idol’s damage or other causes wasn’t specified. Bhatt and his team chose to create a monster featuring a missing head based on this visual inspiration.

perhaps Sarkata was the one who murdered both Stree and her lover, embodying the oppressive nature of patriarchy.

In cinemas starting August 15, 2024, you’ll find the fifth chapter of the Maddock Supernatural Universe, titled Stree 2. Given the strong reception to its second part, rumors are circulating about a potential third installment in this horror-comedy series. Yet, at present, there has been no official word from the production team regarding its development.
