However, it’s this latest movie that Tarantino has expressed no interest in viewing.
Tarantino recently appeared on an episode of Club Random with Bill Maher with an unexpected hot take on one of Disney and Pixar’s iconic franchises. When asked about various film trilogies and what makes them successful, he beamed about Toy Story’s ability to improve with each subsequent film. However, in his mind, the film series ended with three movies, with Tarantino explaining why he refused to watch Toy Story 4.
As a film enthusiast, let me tell you that the third installment of Toy Story left me absolutely spellbound. It ranks among the finest movies I’ve ever had the pleasure to watch. If you’ve followed the series, the emotional impact of the third one is truly overwhelming. However, when they released a fourth movie three years later, my interest simply waned. The story was already brought to a near-perfect conclusion, so even if it’s said to be good, I see no point in revisiting it. I’ve moved on.
The Toy Story Franchise Will Continue Despite Tarantino’s Feelings
Regardless of criticism from Tarantino and other critics, there’s no escaping the fact that a new Toy Story film is set to release in 2025. Officially titled Toy Story 5, this upcoming sequel has already secured the return of Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. The narrative will delve into the challenges traditional toys face as children increasingly favor electronic devices over classic playthings, leaving action figures like Woody and Buzz to grapple with their diminishing role.
Andrew Stanton, renowned for his outstanding work on Pixar’s blockbusters like ‘WALL-E’ and ‘Finding Nemo’, will be taking the director’s chair for the upcoming film. He has a deep connection with the ‘Toy Story’ series, having penned the scripts for the first four films and also being involved in producing the fourth one.
The summer of 2025 marks the arrival of Toy Story 5, joining a wave of sequel releases from Disney. Alongside this installment in the beloved Toy Story series, we can expect follow-ups for Frozen, Moana, The Incredibles, and Zootopia. Many of these anticipated sequels were unveiled at D23, offering more details about previously announced films as well.
The numerous sequels could be prompted by the tremendous box office earnings of “Inside Out 2”. In 2024, this film was not only the highest-grossing film but also set a new record as the most commercially successful animated movie ever made.
