Law And Order Adds Blacklist Alum For Season 24, And It's A Step In The Right Direction For NBC Without Organized Crime

As a gamer who has spent countless hours navigating the intricate worlds of TV shows and their ever-changing landscapes, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia mixed with anticipation when it comes to NBC’s Law & Order Thursdays. The 2024 TV schedule is looming, and the return of my beloved Law & Order series is imminent, albeit with a slightly different lineup.

2024’s autumn TV premieres are approaching, and among them is the return of NBC’s Law & Order on Thursdays. However, this season will bring some changes, as Organized Crime will no longer follow SVU and Law & Order. Despite these alterations, there’s a silver lining in the form of intriguing casting news that seems promising for NBC’s revamped Thursday lineup. In fact, it’s noteworthy because it involves the return of an actor from not one but two of the network’s successful shows. Get ready to greet Ryan Eggold, formerly of The Blacklist and New Amsterdam, on Law & Order!

Ryan Eggold is set to make an appearance in a Season 24 episode as a guest star who shares a familial bond with Detective Vince Riley. His character, Matt Riley, is revealed to be the detective’s brother, and while details about their relationship are yet to be disclosed, fans can expect more insight into Riley’s personal life after his brother joins the cast following Reid Scott’s arrival during Season 23. With Eggold’s extensive experience on NBC from his time on The Blacklist, its spinoff, and New Amsterdam, it promises to be exciting to have him reappear in this new role!

Apart from the recent casting announcements for the upcoming season of Law & Order, these developments have me feeling hopeful about Law & Order Thursdays continuing with just two L&O shows. Notably, Mariska Hargitay, who has been synonymous with the franchise for 25 seasons as SVU‘s Olivia Benson, will make a crossover to Law & Order in an October episode. Since the shows aren’t returning to NBC this fall until October, this means Olivia Benson will appear relatively early in the new season of L&O. In the same October episode, Elizabeth Marvel, another cast member from SVU, will make an appearance as Defense Attorney Rita Calhoun.

Although I’m skeptical that the recent casting announcement indicates a significant shift for the Law & Order crew following the renewal of Law & Order: Organized Crime on Peacock Premium instead of NBC, the focus on one character’s personal life and connections to SVU seems to suggest a more unified L&O universe airing on Thursdays from this fall. Previously, it was Organized Crime that usually crossed over with SVU or provided sibling-related storylines. The fact that the original series is venturing into new territories this season gives me hope, a sentiment I expressed back in April after an especially engaging episode, and it continues to inspire optimism in me today.

Indeed, it remains uncertain whether “Law & Order” and “SVU” will be more intertwined in the 2024-2025 TV season or not, nor is it clear if Ryan Eggold’s role will extend beyond a single guest appearance. Yet, there’s much to anticipate on Thursdays, even without three hours of non-stop action from Wolf Entertainment.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s show “Found” is set to take over the 10 p.m. ET time slot previously occupied by Christopher Meloni’s “Organized Crime”, and I can hardly think of a more exciting swap for NBC. If you’re still skeptical – or simply missed “Found’s” initial season in the spring – you can watch all episodes available thus far with a Peacock subscription, as well as the latest season of “Law & Order”.
