Dan Stevens Explains Why He Lied About Being in Eternals

Dan Stevens Explains Why He Lied About Being in Eternals

As a seasoned movie buff with a knack for navigating the labyrinthine world of Hollywood rumors and gossip, I must say that Dan Stevens‘ antics regarding his alleged involvement in Marvel’s Eternals left me both amused and intrigued. The man has an uncanny ability to keep us on our toes, doesn’t he?

In the TV series “Legion,” Dan Stevens portrayed a Marvel character, although it was speculated in the late 2010s that he would be part of the MCU in an unspecified film project. It eventually became clear that this project was the controversial movie, “Eternals.” However, contrary to rumors, Stevens never had any ties to the production, despite his efforts to persuade others otherwise.

In an interview with The Playlist, Stevens discussed his reasons for teasing Marvel fans and hinted multiple times that he might be portraying the antagonist Kro in Marvel Studios’ 2021 production. According to Stevens, the speculation was ignited by a single image posted online. He stated:

While in London for the Eurovision Song Contest, I found myself surrounded by my friends Brian Tyree Henry and Kamal Nanjani who were there filming ‘Eternals’. We decided to grab a curry together. As often happens when you’re with actor friends, we ended up taking a selfie. Soon after someone posted it, the internet started speculating that I might be playing [Kro]. I was puzzled and asked what they meant, leading to some fun back-and-forth teasing with fans about the theory.

As a die-hard film fan, I couldn’t help but notice Richard Madden subtly suggesting his part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Eternals” during various interviews. One such instance was when he played coy with Collider, using the line, “Kro comment.” However, it wasn’t until every interview I attended became an endless barrage of questions about his rumored MCU role that Richard realized his subtle hint had sparked a wildfire of speculation. He continued…

Although the FX television show “Legion” made Stevens well-known among many viewers and industry professionals, he has managed to achieve significant success without reprising his character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – at this point in time.

Stevens has consistently appeared on television screens, expanding upon his initial role in Downton Abbey with a successful stint on Netflix. He’s become a fixture in shows like Love, Death & Robots and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, and more recently, he’s taken over the lead role in Solar Opposites after Justin Roiland was let go. Upcoming projects include providing voiceovers for the Among Us series and returning to Netflix in the political thriller series Zero Day.

Simultaneously, Stevens has been seen in some significant movie releases lately. He’s lent his voice to movies like “The Sea Beast” and the English version of Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron”. Additionally, he became part of Legendary’s MonsterVerse with a role in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”, played a part in the hit horror film “Abigail”, and is now appearing in another horror movie titled “Cuckoo”. With several more movies in the pipeline, such as “The Ritual” starring Al Pacino, it’s uncertain whether Stevens would have time to take on a Marvel role if one were offered.

Indeed, in the upcoming years, it’s likely that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will seek a fresh team of mutants, potentially giving Stevens an opportunity to officially become part of the franchise. This might result in an interesting twist for him, as he would need to conceal his MCU participation instead of hinting at it, which could be a reversal of his current situation with the “Eternals.”

The Eternals series is currently streaming (excluding Stevens) on Disney+. Simultaneously, the entire Legion series can be accessed on Hulu or Disney+, depending on your location.
