As a long-time fan of heartwarming, culturally rich TV shows, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the renewal of Apple TV+’s Acapulco for a fourth season! Having grown up with the stories and humor of Eugenio Derbez, it’s fantastic to see his unique vision continue to unfold on our screens.
Apple TV+ is booking another return trip to Acapulco.
The popular comedy series led by and overseen by Eugenio Derbez has been renewed for a fourth season on Apple TV+. This decision was made two months following the conclusion of its third season, and just one month after it received nine nominations at the Imagen Awards, an event that acknowledges Latinos in television and film. The show (co-produced by Lionsgate Television, 3Pas Studios, Zihuatanejo Productions, and The Tannenbaum Company) is nominated for best comedy series, with seven of its cast members also receiving acting nominations.
“It’s absolutely exhilarating that Apple has decided to commission a fourth season of Acapulco, as stated by Derbez. I am profoundly grateful to our exceptional partners, the gifted cast and crew, and most importantly, the audience whose unwavering affection and backing have made this adventure possible. It’s not common for series focusing on Latino narratives to progress this far, which makes this achievement all the more significant. The importance of representation cannot be overstated, and our continuous endeavor to portray these vibrant tales on a worldwide platform is something that executive producer Ben Odell and I take immense pride in.”
The TV show “Acapulco” is modeled after Eugenio Derbez’s movie “How to Be a Latin Lover,” and it tells the story of Máximo, portrayed by Enrique Arrizón as the younger version, in his days working at a resort during the 1980s. In its third season, we see young Máximo striving for success but risking some relationships along the way. Meanwhile, older Máximi returns to the resort he hardly remembers from his past.
“Austin Winsberg, series co-creator, and Sam Laybourne, showrunner, expressed their deep gratitude to Apple and Lionsgate for allowing them another season of this heartwarming, joyful series. Achieving a fourth season is a testament to an exceptional cast, crew, and production team. They are thrilled to return to Las Colinas and work alongside such talented, dedicated, and compassionate individuals once more.”
In addition to Derbez and Arrizón, the cast of Acapulco includes Fernando Carsa, Damián Alcázar, Camila Perez, Vanessa Bauche, Regina Reynoso, Raphael Alejandro, Jessica Collins, Chord Overstreet, Rafael Cebrián, Regina Orozco, and Carlos Corona.
Eduardo Cisneros, Jason Shuman, and Winsberg are the creators of this series. Winsberg, Laybourne, Derbez serve as executive producers, along with Kim, Eric Tannenbaum, Jason Wang from The Tannenbaum Company, and director Jaime Eliezer Karas. Sonia Gambaro of 3Pas Studios takes on the role of co-executive producer.
