Birkenstock Readies Limited-Edition 60th Anniversary Zürich Sandal Collection

As someone who has spent countless hours traversing the cobblestone streets of Europe, I can attest to the unparalleled comfort and style that Birkenstock‘s Zürich sandal offers. This limited-edition anniversary collection is a testament to the timeless appeal and functionality of this iconic shoe.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to be part of the celebration marking the 60th year of Birkenstock’s iconic Zürich sandal! They’re unveiling a special limited-edition collection for this milestone, showcasing four designs reminiscent of their archived footwear masterpieces.

In 1964, Karl Birkenstock unveiled his second sandal creation, which he named the “Closed Model” due to its wide upper, natural composition, and double buckles. The shoe was later known as the Zürich because of its Brutalist construction. At first, it gained recognition for its practical design and foot health advantages, and since then, it has garnered widespread popularity.

For today’s celebration, the brand has combined elements of its classic design with current fashion trends in four color options: “Dark Red,” “Dark Green,” “Light Blue,” and “Light Green.” The design incorporates traditional buckles and soles similar to those on a 1964 model, while premium leather and soft suede uppers lend a modern, luxurious feel. At the same time, an ergonomically shaped cork-latex footbed highlights the brand’s long history in shoemaking, spanning centuries.

2021 sees Birkenstock unveiling three fresh takes on their popular Zürich sandal: the Zürich Tech, emphasizing practical aesthetics, and the Zürich Embossed and the Zürich Suede, which utilize premium, supple leather in their construction.

On August 29, you can purchase Birkenstock’s Zürich Anniversary Collection directly from their online store. Check out the gallery above for a glimpse of the designs inspired by their archives.
