As a long-time gamer and fan of all things spooky, I must admit my excitement is bubbling like a possessed potion over the upcoming release of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” Having grown up with the original, it’s an honor to see Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, and Catherine O’Hara gracing the red carpet together. The thought of their reunion in Tim Burton’s imaginative world sends shivers down my spine!
On Wednesday, Jenna Ortega made her grand entrance on the red carpet for the world premiere of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” during the 81st Venice International Film Festival.
Ortega teamed up with her fellow actors Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, and Catherine O’Hara (from the 1988 version), along with the returning director, Tim Burton.
36 years later, “The Deetz family returns to Winter River following an untimely demise of Charles Deetz. Lydia’s (Ryder) world is flipped when her unruly teenage daughter, Astrid (Ortega), stumbles upon a puzzling model of the town in the loft and inadvertently opens a gateway to the Afterlife, freeing Betelgeuse (Keaton).”
At the festival’s press event, I found myself quietly keeping to the corner, ensuring I didn’t unintentionally mimic the incredible artistry of the legendary Winona Ryder from years past.
Early feedback from the festival is favorable, with The Hollywood Reporter stating, “The lively tempo, infectious spirit, and constant flow of hilarious instances suggest that Tim Burton has rediscovered his delight in this realm, and for those who cherished the initial film, it’s catching. This enthusiasm extends to the cast as well, each actor embracing the madness with enthusiasm.”
Burton expressed that the film rejuvenated him, as he had been feeling somewhat disenchanted with the film industry and had momentarily lost his bearings.
According to current projections, the Warner Bros. movie could potentially earn up to $80 million upon its nationwide theater release on September 6th.
