As a lifelong admirer of the Jurassic Park franchise, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and excitement when I heard Scarlett Johansson would be joining the Jurassic World series. Having spent my childhood years erecting a Jurassic Park tent in my bedroom and dreaming about those iconic velociraptors, it’s surreal to see how far we’ve come.
Actress Scarlett Johansson, who is known for her roles in Marvel and Oscar-nominated films, has become the latest big name in Hollywood to join the “Jurassic World” series. In an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Johansson revealed that she’s been trying to land a role in this iconic franchise for 15 years. Johansson will take the lead in the upcoming sequel, alongside Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Rupert Friend, and Mahershala, among others. On the show, Johansson, who is best known for her role as Black Widow, spoke openly about “Jurassic World 4” (possibly titled “Jurassic World: Rebirth”). Johansson expressed her excitement about being part of this franchise, which she’s had a long-standing interest in.
1. “For about 15 years now, I’ve been persistently pursuing a spot within this franchise, eagerly waiting for any opportunity at all. To be honest, if given the chance right now, I wouldn’t hesitate to dedicate myself completely.”
Johansson shared that, just like many others, she cherishes memories of the dinosaur series from her youth and beyond. Reflecting on her previous appearance on Fallon’s show, Johansson recalls a question about the most treasured gift she has ever received. The actress fondly remembers that it was something every ’80s kid likely wished for:
“You inquired about the best gift I’ve ever received during my previous appearance on this show. That was before the Jurassic casting, and at that time, I said I received a tent. When I was around 7 years old, I wished for a Jurassic Park tent, and I set it up in my shared bedroom with my sister. For an entire year, I slept on the floor inside it. The experience was fantastic! I vividly recall feeling as if velociraptors were passing through during the night, which provided a sense of comfort. Now, I’m part of the new Jurassic movie – it’s unbelievable! So, I believe that by wishing for it, we somehow made it happen.”
The Jurassic Franchise Needs a Refresh
Despite the enduring popularity of the Jurassic World series, the last movie did not meet expectations for many viewers, leading the studio to consider fresh ideas. One such idea involves revisiting the original films, with David Koepp writing the script. Koepp was instrumental in crafting Spielberg’s Jurassic Park films, including Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Gareth Edwards, famed for movies like Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and The Creator, will direct this new project. Amblin Entertainment and The Kennedy/Marshall Company, longtime partners in the franchise, are slated to produce the film.
By bringing in the acclaimed actress Johansson, who is renowned for her roles in Hollywood and a devoted fan of the Jurassic universe, we expect to inject fresh vigor into the series. Previous installments, such as the last one that featured numerous legacy characters, seemed to fall short in enhancing the film, unfortunately. It’s intriguing to note that Johansson, one of Tinseltown’s top female leads, shares our enthusiasm for the Jurassic Park saga. In a recent interview, she shared her excitement about working on Jurassic World 4, stating it has been an incredible experience.
In response to each scene in the film, I find myself utterly spellbound, as if to say that fear seems to be reflected in my gaze.
The as-yet-unnamed Jurassic World film featuring Scarlett Johansson will make its debut on the big screen on July 2nd, 2025.
