As a gamer who’s had his fair share of movie marathons and late-night binge-watching sessions, I can confidently say that Zoë Kravitz has truly outdone herself with her directorial debut in Blink Twice. Channing Tatum’s glowing praises for her improvised line might seem like a casual anecdote, but it speaks volumes about the creative synergy between the two artists.
Although some of you might still be discussing Channing Tatum’s Gambit accent, many others have shifted their focus to his exceptional, possibly career-defining portrayal in the movie “Blink Twice”. During my conversations with the cast of “Blink Twice”, they couldn’t stop praising Kravitz as a first-time director. However, one of the most complimentary (and amusing) stories about Kravitz was shared by Tatum himself, who recounted an instance where she improvised his favorite line from the film.

By the finale of “Blink Twice”, events take an unsettling turn. Actress Naomi Ackie’s character, Frida, uncovers she was drugged to erase her memories of her time with Channing Tatum’s character, Slater King. In a chilling scene that underscores King’s twisted nature, he reveals their friendship to Frida and playfully taps her nose, an act that Tatum found delightfully uncomfortable. Interestingly, Tatum mentioned that this moment called to mind Zoë Kravitz’s request in “Superbad”.
My favorite is the boop. And that was fully Zoë. I would say ‘You’re like my best friend.’ And she goes, ‘Boop her.’ And I was like, ‘Boop her? Boop like Superbad?’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah.’
It’s not surprising that Channing Tatum, who has a history working with Jonah Hill on movies like “21 Jump Street” and “This Is The End” alongside the “Superbad” cast, would instinctively associate Jonah Hill’s actions with Michael Cera when Kravitz delivered this line. This is because “Superbad,” a film often hailed as one of the funniest ever made, not only has a strong comedic connection for Tatum but also has a personal significance due to his relationship with the cast. In fact, Tatum even referenced his famous line from “21 Jump Street” during an eight-minute interview, and the mention of both these films in such a short conversation seems meaningful.
