As a seasoned watch collector with a penchant for unique and innovative timepieces, I must say that De Bethune never ceases to impress me. Their latest offerings at Geneva Watch Days, the DB28xs Steel Wheels and Aérolite, are nothing short of extraordinary.
Previously this year, De Bethune introduced the captivating Purple Rain DB28xs, marking the second addition to the DB28 collection with the ‘xs’ designation. This week at Geneva Watch Days, the independent watchmaker showcased two exceptional DB28xs references, reflecting their persistent ambition to develop this model further. The latest additions include the Steel Wheels and the Aérolite, representing the most recent manifestations of De Bethune’s dedication to innovative horology.
De Bethune DB28xs Steel Wheels
The DB28 Steel Wheels timepiece has been redesigned, originally released in 2018, now available in reduced dimensions. With a case diameter of 39mm, this is a significant 4mm reduction from the original. Despite the size change, the DB28xs Steel Wheels maintains its architectural and technical excellence without any compromises.
The “compact design” of the watch isn’t the standout aspect that requires attention. On a technical level, it incorporates the DB2115V13 caliber, which offers an impressive 6-day power reserve—a 20% enhancement compared to its previous version. Crafted from Grade 5 titanium, the DB28xs Steel Wheels is priced at $90,000 USD and comes with a navy blue leather strap.
De Bethune DB28xs Aérolite
In the words of Denis Flageollet, De Bethune’s master watchmaker, “There is no other metal that carries such a concentration of raw cosmic energy and deep-rooted emotion as iron meteorites, which have been shaped in the fiery crucible of stars.” The DB28xs Aérolite represents a fusion of artistry and science, taking inspiration from both the DB28xs Starry Seas and DB28XP Météorite models to craft something fresh within a modern 39mm case.
The watch is encased in black zirconium and its face appears to depict the inception of a galaxy. Its dial, made from blue meteorite, sparkles alluringly with vibrant iridescence. Intricate guilloché patterns and white gold “stars” are scattered across it, creating a celestial scene filled with mystery.
This watch, the DB28xs Aérolite, is equipped with a 6-day power reserve. The mechanism behind it is a compacted version of the DB2005 caliber. Released as an annual limited edition, its price stands at $120,000 USD.
