Last Thursday, I was utterly captivated at the Venice Film Festival when Angelina Jolie took center stage at the world premiere of Pablo Larraín’s film, “Maria,” held at Palazzo del Cinema. What a sight to behold!

On a sweltering day with temperatures reaching well over 80 degrees Fahrenheit, Jolie graced the surroundings outside Sala Grande in an elegant, draped asymmetrical gown designed by Tamara Ralph – one of her regular collaborators. Despite the heat, she appeared cool and composed as Jolie posed on the red carpet with her fellow stars such as Pierfrancisco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and auteur Larraín. Afterwards, she conducted two interviews with local journalists on the red carpet, followed by spending a considerable amount of time interacting with fans by greeting them, taking photos, and signing autographs along the barricade.

Regarding fashion, Jolie’s unexpected accessory choice wasn’t limited to her faux fur stole in the summer heat. Upon arriving in Venice, she was snapped at the airport, exuding movie star elegance, dressed for cool autumn weather in a Dior fall 2024 trench coat and leather boots.
In a more relaxed fashion, she’s been spotted at other festivals. Recently, she graced the entrance of Hotel Excelsior in a Saint Laurent V-neck gown without sleeves, crafted from flowing silk. This captivating script was written by Steven Knight. At a press conference held Thursday afternoon prior to the screening, Jolie made her initial comments about the project. She dedicated approximately seven months to prepare for this demanding role, which involved training with opera singers and instructors to perfect the stance, breathing, and movements of a singer of Callas’ stature. Immersing herself in opera provided “therapy I didn’t know I needed,” she shared with the press.
“She went on to explain, ‘I didn’t realize how much I kept buried inside, and it wasn’t the task at hand that was difficult, but rather the emotional journey of finding my voice, being authentic, and expressing myself freely.’ When asked about her connection with Callas, Jolie said, somewhat unexpectedly, ‘I resonate most with the tender side of her, the part that didn’t have space in the world to be as gentle as she really was – as emotionally exposed as she truly was. I identify more with her vulnerability than anything else.'”
