Quentin Tarantino has firmly stated that he intends to retire from movie-making following his tenth film, ruling out any possibility of joining the cherished Star Trek series. In a conversation on Bill Maher’s podcast, Tarantino discussed how these rumors managed to persist without his explicit confirmation, with fans running wild with speculation about this hypothetical production.
1. “I don’t see it happening. The truth about it has been obscured with so much false information.”
Due to his absence from platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, he was unable to refute any false information about him that might have spread. He also mentioned that even if information is reported as rumor, it can easily gain popularity.
“The thing is, they can say anything. My point being, though, they write it in a show biz magazine and then that gets picked up in 140 pieces because I’m not shutting that down because I’m not connected.”
He compared the Star Trek rumors to those of The Movie Critic, which was his rumored tenth and final film, but ended up being scrapped.
Screenwriter Mark L. Smith, most recognized as a collaborator on the movie “The Revenant“, shares that he has conversed with Quentin Tarantino regarding the project, hinting at a past association. During an interview with Collider, he discussed the script lying on Tarantino’s desk and expressed it would have been “an exceptional Star Trek film, not due to my writing, but rather for what Tarantino intended to accomplish with it.”
One possible explanation for Tarantino potentially leaving the project was when he started to worry that it might be his tenth and last movie.
“He expressed concern about the possibility of Star Trek being his final film, questioning if that’s how he wanted to conclude his career. I believe this sentiment was a significant hurdle for him.”
Tarantino’s Final Film Remains Undecided
As a cinephile, it’s hard not to acknowledge the impact of Quentin Tarantino, one of the leading filmmakers of our time. From 2019 onwards, Quentin Tarantino has written a novel based on his latest movie, titled “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: A Novel“. In the year 2021, he released “Cinema Speculation“, a non-fiction work delving into ’70s American films that inspired him. As for his upcoming film, no specifics have been announced yet, but given his past works, it’s expected to receive accolades whenever Tarantino decides to produce and finalize it.
