Whatever Happened To Full House’s Mr. Bear? Jodie Sweetin Explains Where The Original Stuffed Toy Is Today

As a devoted Full House enthusiast who has spent countless hours rewatching the iconic sitcom and its spinoff, I can wholeheartedly say that Mr. Bear is the heart and soul of the Tanner family – even if he’s just a stuffed animal. With his humble beginnings as a gift from Stephanie’s late mother, Mr. Bear has become an enduring symbol of love and loss that resonates with fans across generations.

Keeping track of all the significant characters in “Full House” could be challenging with the Tanners, Katsopolises, Gladstones (only one apparently), and Gibblers (the number depending on how many siblings Kimmy actually had). Given its title, this level of complexity is not surprising. Beyond the numerous San Franciscans, there were also non-human family members like Comet and Mr. Bear. The latter was a cherished item for Stephanie, and interestingly enough, Jodie Sweetin knows where Mr. Bear currently dwells.

For all eight seasons of Full House and then years later on the spinoff Fuller House, Jodie Sweetin portrayed middle sister Stephanie Tanner, and while her childhood toy Mr. Bear only made a handful of appearances, any fan can tell you how important he was. So where is he now? The actress divulged to People:

Here is the original first teddy bear, also known as OG. It’s the one and only. This beloved companion spends time in my office and occasionally makes an appearance. Despite the passage of years, he’s managed to hold up quite well, much like many members of the Full House cast. All in all, it’s a delightful addition to my workspace.

Rest assured, fans of Full House, Mr. Bear remains in his usual spot – by Stephanie’s side, just as he has been for all these years. This beloved toy bears a poignant past, as it was unveiled in the second season of the cherished ABC sitcom that Stephanie’s late mother bestowed her with Mr. Bear when Michelle was born (DJ received a charm bracelet instead). Given that this happened just before her mom’s demise, it made the present all the more significant and heartfelt (I assure you, I am not shedding tears).

Jodie Sweetin stated that she possesses the “authentic” teddy bear, as every notable actor requires a stand-in, doesn’t one agree? She elaborated on this by saying:

We had a couple of Mr. Bear characters that we utilized for our program. One of them might have been involved in a part where he looked somewhat disheveled, although it wasn’t exactly a tug-of-war scene.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’d say it’s only fitting that among all the memorabilia from the Full House set, it was Jodie Sweetin who ended up with Mr. Bear. It makes sense for her to have something as iconic and cuddly as that! John Stamos could easily have grabbed the famous couch, but it seems more practical for him not to lug that around. Dave Coulier got his hands on Woodchuck, which fits his character perfectly, while Andrea Barber snagged all of Kimmy Gibbler’s quirky accessories – perfect for a girl like her! Lastly, Candace Cameron Bure kept Pillow Person close, a comforting reminder of the show’s warmth.

I’m quite pleased with how well each cast member has made thoughtful decisions, and there’s something about the fatherly role that makes me think Mr. Bear is particularly emotional or sensitive.

Listen to Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber discussing the show on their podcast titled “How Rude, Tanneritos!”. Currently, Sweetin is featured in a new Hallmark movie this month. For those craving more Full House experience, you can stream the entire eight-season series with a Hulu subscription.
