Crawl 2 Director Alexandre Aja Reveals Plans for the Horror Movie Sequel

As a horror enthusiast with a penchant for all things aquatic and terrifying, I can confidently say that Alexandre Aja‘s work on Crawl has left me utterly captivated. The way he effortlessly weaves suspense and terror, making you squirm in your seat as the characters navigate through treacherous waters and relentless alligators, is nothing short of masterful.

As a passionate cinephile who can’t get enough of heart-pounding horror films, I’m thrilled to share that Alexandre Aja, the mastermind behind the chilling 2019 hit “Crawl”, has disclosed exciting details about the eagerly awaited sequel, tentatively known as “Crawl 2”. This visionary director has been brewing ideas for this film not due to any external pressure, but because he’s been captivated by it since the first movie hit the big screen. In a recent interview with Cinemablend, Aja unveiled tantalizing glimpses of the next installment in the alligator-centric saga that unfolds during hurricane season. Since the initial release, he’s been refining the sequel in his mind, and hints at a fresh setting and even a novel natural catastrophe to keep us on the edge of our seats!

There are numerous aspects I believe could be further expanded. After watching a film, I find myself unconsciously exploring its settings, even though I can no longer change anything about it. It’s as if I’m still trapped within the movie’s world, constantly seeking alternative locations. But alas, the movie has already ended!

In essence, Crawl has remained similar due to the unfortunate fact that storms and hurricanes haven’t ceased following the movie’s release. Watching all that footage repeatedly on TV constantly reminds me of various shooting setups and potential scenarios for an exhilarating, tension-filled survival sequence in Crawl. Therefore, I am eager to revisit these ideas and once again don my wetsuit

It’s unclear if Aja plans to reuse the same formula from the initial film or if characters from that movie will appear in the sequel. However, we do know that the alligators will be moved to New York City for the next installment. It seems that Aja is excited to create chaos and monsters in New York and deliver another horror blockbuster to viewers

Crawl is One of the Best Creature Features in Years

In this narrative, we follow Haley, a young woman, as she defies the established safety protocols when a hurricane strikes her hometown in Florida. Rather than seeking refuge at a designated safe location, Haley ventures into the heart of the tempest to locate her father, Dave, whom she suspects is trapped inside his house due to his disappearance. As the story unfolds, Haley braves the storm’s wrath and finds Dave in the crawl space of their house, injured. However, as they attempt to flee, they discover that Florida’s notorious alligator population has seized control…and they’re on the menu

Praised by both viewers and critics, the movie “Crawl” offered a unique twist to the horror genre centered around monstrous creatures. The compelling duo of Barry Pepper and Kaya Scodelario played a significant role in the film’s success, as they broke away from the conventional trope of hapless victims by portraying characters who were intelligent and resourceful while trying to evade the relentless beasts. The film garnered even more attention when Quentin Tarantino named it one of his top picks for 2019. Fingers crossed that the sequel can follow in its footsteps and make a splash!

As for the sequel, Crawl 2, no launch date has been announced yet. On the other hand, you can currently stream the original Crawl movie on Paramount+
