Barney The Dinosaur Finds a New Voice with Trap Star Jonathan Langdon

Barney The Dinosaur Finds a New Voice with Trap Star Jonathan Langdon

As a cinephile with decades of film and television viewing under my belt, I must admit that the return of Barney, the beloved purple dinosaur, has piqued my curiosity. Having grown up watching the original series on PBS, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia at the thought of a new animated series featuring the characters from the show.

It’s hard to deny it, but Barney the Dinosaur is making a return, whether you’re excited about it or not! The well-known purple Tyrannosaurus Rex is back with a fresh appearance, a brand new cartoon series, and of course, an abundance of new merchandise from Mattel. This fall, we can expect the debut of Barney’s World, an animated series based on the characters from the original PBS series. Furthermore, actor Jonathan Langdon, who became a viral sensation over the summer due to his role in M. Night Shyamalan’s thrillerTrap, will be lending his voice to Barney.

Beginning October 14, Barney’s World debuts exclusively on Max. A subsequent airing will take place on Cartoon Network starting October 18. The inaugural season consists of 52 episodes, each lasting 11 minutes. Selected episodes from the new series can also be viewed on YouTube, with the first episode being released on October 11. This latest venture is a collaboration between Mattel and Warner Bros. Discovery.

15 years have passed since the final original episode of Barney & Friends aired back in 2009, but the upcoming series is set to capitalize on nostalgia and familiarity among younger viewers. A sneak peek at the series was unveiled this week, showcasing that it will maintain a strong connection to its roots, featuring songs and tales tailored for preschoolers.

The trailer indicates that Baby Bop has returned, accompanied by her sibling, now named Billy rather than B.J., as suggested by the change. Barney will be voiced by Langdon, while Jonathan Tan lends his voice to Billy. Bryn McAuley takes on the role of Baby Bop, Jayd Deroché voices David, Diana Tsoy voices Mel, and Ella Paciocco plays Vivie.

Who is Jonathan Langdon, the Voice of Barney?

Jonathan Langdon might be taking on his most significant role to date, as it will solely involve his voice. Despite this, he has a decade-long acting career under his belt, primarily in front of the camera. His recent performances include the M. Night Shyamalan thriller “Trap,” and he’s also been seen in the series “NOS4A2,” “Run the Burbs,” “Robyn Hood,” “Utopia Falls,” and the Disney TV movie series “Zombies.”

This summer, I found myself unexpectedly joining the ranks of internet humor sensations, all thanks to my role in the movie “Trap”. In the intriguing preview for this flick, my character Jamie is depicted outlining the entire police operation aimed at ensnaring a serial killer to none other than Josh Hartnett’s character – who, unbeknownst to us, turns out to be the very culprit we’re trying to capture. This scene sparked a hilarious meme trend where my image from the film is paired with a spoiler revealing a trap or surprise, much like this example:

For 13 consecutive seasons between 1992 and 2009, the popular children’s show Barney & Friends aired on PBS. The show was distinctive for its live-action Barney character, portrayed by an actor in a costume, set against a playground backdrop filled with kids. Notably, this series provided early opportunities to several actors, such as Selena Gomez, Debby Ryan, and Demi Lovato. Now, a fresh new series is on the horizon, preceding the upcoming Barney feature film that’s also in production.

Barney’s World
premieres this October on Max, Cartoon Network, and YouTube.
