As a gamer, I’m excited about the fact that Warner Bros. Discovery, the folks behind my favorite games like Hogwarts Legacy, are already setting their sights on the successor of this year’s best-selling new game release in 2023. It’s no surprise to me why they’re doing this, given the incredible success we gamers have shown with their games!
At a recent Bank of America conference, Gunnar Wiedenfels, WBD’s Chief Financial Officer, expressed his views on the potential significance of a follow-up to Hogwarts Legacy. He emphasized this due to its substantial success for their company, as reported by Variety.

It’s worth noting that another game developed by WB Games was recently launched, but it hasn’t received anywhere near the acclaim of its Harry Potter counterpart – Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Interestingly, a massive number of refund requests were made shortly after its debut, suggesting that the third-person live service shooter didn’t meet expectations for the publisher.
In contrast, Hogwarts Legacy has sold over 24 million copies by January 2024, with players collectively spending more than 700 million hours in-game. This success story has undeniably been a massive hit for developers Avalanche and publishers WB Games, making it understandable that they’d be eager to explore additional opportunities for growth.
How Soon Is A Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Coming?
At present, we can’t predict an exact timeline for when Hogwarts Legacy 2 might be released or any similar titles. However, it seems that you might want to keep your expectations low as of now. Interestingly, Avalanche is already recruiting staff for a sequel, and there are whispers about the game potentially being developed using Unreal Engine 5.
After the debut of Hogwarts Legacy, Warner Bros. introduced a new game titled Quidditch Champions this week, which revolves around the popular sport of “Quidditch” from the Wizarding World. This game features many beloved characters from the Harry Potter books and films – a feature that Hogwarts Legacy did not fully deliver on.
