You won’t find Cate Blanchett or Ben Stiller standing in lines at a crowded baggage claim or passing through security without belts and shoes at Canada’s busiest airport. Instead, they use private jet terminals, luxurious VIP lounges, and secret passageways to maintain their privacy.

At the TIFF festival, organizers hire an external concierge service that notifies airport authorities and the Canada Border Services Agency about who will be arriving and departing at Pearson Airport. This allows VIP celebrities and dignitaries to bypass check-in and security lines, receive special treatment similar to heads of state, and quickly reach their chauffeured cars in designated private areas.

Hollywood’s top stars often choose to travel commercially to and from Pearson Airport because U.S. Customs is located within the terminal, allowing for pre-boarding clearance and connections to 174 U.S. cities. This is unlike Cannes or Venice, where celebrities returning from Hollywood have to connect domestically via major airline hubs before reaching their final destinations. Mazurkewich points out that one advantage of Toronto is that when these stars depart again, they have more options for destinations due to the U.S. Customs services available at the airport.

In the heart of the city, local hotels discreetly assist in transporting Hollywood stars throughout town. As General Manager at 1 Hotel Toronto, Anthony Campaniaris explains, they employ measures such as private elevators, hidden parking entrances, and a strict no-photography rule to avoid any disturbance or delays for VIP guests.
