Amateur Filmmakers Bring Bollywood Dream to Small Town in Uplifting ‘Superboys of Malegaon’ Trailer

As a cinephile with a soft spot for underdog stories, I can hardly contain my excitement for “Superboys of Malegaon”. The trailer alone has me eagerly awaiting the film’s release, and I can’t help but be reminded of my own small-town dreams that seemed just as improbable.

The real-life tale of Nasir Shaikh, a small-town filmmaker from Malegaon, India, making it big in Bollywood, is featured in the recently released trailer for “Superboys of Malegaon.”

In the story titled “Superboys of Malegaon“, the residents of this small town often find solace in the glamourous world of Bollywood movies. Inspired by this, Nasir proposes to his friends a low-budget film project that focuses on characters based on people they know from their own lives.

The September 13th grand debut at the Toronto Film Festival is set to be preceded by a nationwide and Indian cinema release on January 2025, for the upcoming comedy produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

In the moving preview, Adarsh Gourav’s character from ‘The White Tiger’, expresses his belief that laughter is vital amidst the sorrow of Malegaon. He shares this sentiment with his doubtful companions. The film, directed by Reema Kagti, beautifully explores the intersection of filmmaking and friendship in a quaint Indian town, as Shaikh creates an amusing tribute to small-town life that resonates deeply with local audiences.

As an ardent admirer, I found myself deeply inspired to create a movie for the remarkable folks of Malegaon, by no less than them. Gathering my motley crew of friends, I embarked on a journey to actualize my dream, breathing new vitality into this enchanting town. This film serves as an emotional yet motivating exploration of the art of cinema and camaraderie – a tale of what unfolds when these two realms intertwine. As the producers so eloquently put it.

In addition to the main cast, Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby Production’s production also features Shashank Arora, Vineet Kumar Singh, Anuj Singh Duhan, Saqib Ayub, Pallav Singgh, Manjiri Pupala, and Muskkaan Jaferi.

The film titled “Superboys of Malegaon” was helmed by Kagti from a screenplay penned by Varun Grover. The production responsibilities were jointly handled by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Kagti.
