Creative Arts Emmys: Néstor Carbonell and Michaela Coel Win for Guest Acting in a Drama Series

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys have been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! The performances of Néstor Carbonell and Michaela Coel were truly captivating, transporting us to different worlds with their exceptional acting skills.

On the second night of the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys, Néstor Carbonell and Michaela Coel were honored as the best guest actor and actress respectively. Carbonell received his award for his exceptional performance as Rodrigues in FX’s series Shogun, while Coel was recognized for her portrayal of Bev on Prime Video’s production, Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

2022 Emmy nominee for Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, Jamie Lee Curtis, handed the trophy to winner Carbonell. Contending actresses also included Paul Dano from “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” on Prime Video, Tracy Letts of “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty” on HBO/Max, Jonathan Pryce from “Slow Horses” on Apple TV+, and John Turturro from “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” on Prime Video as well. In his acceptance speech, Carbonell acknowledged his spouse first.

I just wanted to give a shout-out to my amazing wife, Shannon,” I said, with a smile. “You see, she’s an actress who’s been in the entertainment industry for a whopping 25 years, gracing both big and small screens, as well as the stage. But when our little guy number two arrived, she chose to devote herself fully to motherhood, giving me the space to pursue my passion. So here I am, standing on this stage, thanks to her selfless decision.

In a past interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Carbonell explained the significance of his role as Rodrigues. He stated, “Being involved in this fantastic series was an extraordinary journey, from start to finish. It’s rare for an actor to embody someone who is so different from themselves in so many aspects; physically, I had the chance to grow a rather unsightly beard, gain some weight, and learn a Castilian accent. Typically, when I work on a project, I have to hire my own dialect coach because it’s not included in the budget, but for Shogun, they didn’t skimp on any detail.

I’m thrilled to share that I was honored with a nomination for Best Guest Actress, an unexpected yet delightful surprise! It turns out I was nominated alongside some extraordinary talents such as Claire Foy from The Crown on Netflix, Marcia Gay Harden from The Morning Show on Apple TV+, Sarah Paulson from Mr. & Mrs. Smith on Prime Video, and Parker Posey, also from Mr. & Mrs. Smith on Prime Video. What an incredible lineup! Even though I wasn’t present at the ceremony, just being recognized among these amazing actresses is an unforgettable moment for me.
