Originally scheduled for this summer, the movie has encountered a slight hiccup due to reshoots, pushing its release date to summer 2025. The anticipation among fans is sky-high, especially with Ana de Armas stepping into the lead role. Recently, she’ve shared some insights about the reshoots and promised that a trailer will be out soon, keeping our excitement levels high!
This week at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Ana de Armas discussed her new movie, “Eden,” with Collider. She highlighted the necessity of reshoots and shared how vital they were in making “Ballerina” resemble the “John Wick” series more closely. De Armas also expressed high faith in producer Chad Stahelski, who is renowned for his skill in creating the most detailed and spectacular action scenes.
Each time they mention reshoots, it’s not typically a positive sign. Nevertheless, I can’t help but feel good about it. Everything we filmed during those reshoots was essential. The footage we got is simply outstanding; it’s truly spectacular. A trailer for the movie is due to be released soon, I’ve been informed. I’ve had a sneak peek, and it’s stunning. I’m immensely proud of it. It’s incredibly exciting. It’s dangerous, it’s seductive, and it definitely has that John Wick vibe. I believe the audience will be taken aback. Of course, I’m biased, but I think it’s really impressive. I have high expectations for this movie; it promises to be outstanding.
Title character, named Ballerina, unfolds the narrative of Rooney, a young assassin portrayed by de Armas, who embarks on a quest for vengeance against those responsible for her family’s demise. In keeping with its predecessors, the movie will delve into the harsh, gritty, and uncompromising universe of assassins. The ensemble includes veterans like Anjelica Huston, returning as The Director from the third John Wick installment; Ian McShane reprising his role as Winston Scott, the manager of the New York Continental Hotel branch; and the late Lance Reddick as Charon, the beloved concierge and ally to John Wick. This established cast will be joined by Gabriel Byrne, a new addition, who plays a cryptic adversary, and Norman Reedus, known for his role in The Walking Dead.

What’s his next move? Is there even a John Wick 5?” By placing the storyline elsewhere, I can maintain the intrigue and uncertainty about whether there might be another installment.
Apart from stating that the reshoots weren’t typical reshoots but rather “additional shoots”, Stahelski and his team explained they wanted these extra scenes because they aimed to improve the film, safeguard its quality, and since Keanu Reeves is also part of it. Unlike the earlier John Wick films, this spinoff is helmed by Len Wiseman, famous for the Underworld series. Given McShane and de Armas’ remarks about these additional shoots, it appears that fans had valid reasons to be worried about Wiseman’s role in the project.
