Gary Oldman Just Told A Great Story About Meeting With Young Fans After Harry Potter And Finding The Coolest Batman Fan

As a gamer with a deep appreciation for cinema and a fondness for Gary Oldman’s illustrious career, I can wholeheartedly attest to the chameleonic talent this man possesses. From Sirius Black to Commissioner Gordon, he has effortlessly transformed himself into characters that have left lasting impressions on generations of film enthusiasts.

Gary Oldman is a remarkable actor known for an impressive array of equally compelling roles spanning his career. He’s graced numerous critically acclaimed films, been recognized with Oscar nominations, and contributed to popular film franchises. Although his most well-known character might be Sirius Black from the Harry Potter series, some children seem particularly enamored by his work in the Batman franchise.

On the Jess Cagle Show on SiriusXM, I, Gary Oldman, was asked about the roles fans typically recognize me by. I mentioned that for my younger admirers, it’s most often Harry Potter that rings a bell. However, I shared an amusing story where I once introduced myself as the Harry Potter character to a young fan, only to be corrected by someone who recognized me from Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. In my own words, I explained…

Back in the day, I found myself at one of those luxurious camping spots they call glamping. It was years ago with my little ones, and guess who I bump into? None other than my dentist! He asked me to pop over and greet his Harry Potter-obsessed son. So, I strolled up to the kid, Jack if I remember correctly, and introduced myself as Sirius Black. Well, another kid piped up from across the fire pit, “No way, you’re not! You’re James Gordon!

It’s not too unexpected, upon reflection, that a child might identify Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon rather than Sirius Black. After all, Oldman is an actor known for his exceptional ability to transform himself dramatically. In fact, even Tom Felton, who acted alongside him in the Harry Potter series, didn’t recognize Oldman on set when he was playing a different role. Many of Oldman’s most memorable characters bear little resemblance to the man we see giving interviews. Among his roles, Commissioner Gordon might look more like Gary Oldman off-set compared to others he has portrayed.

It’s likely that Gary Oldman doesn’t care one way or the other. The actor has commended both the Harry Potter and Batman films as significant for his career at the time. It’s safe to assume that the children were thrilled to meet either Sirius Black or Commissioner Gordon. As for their parents, they were likely equally excited. After all, they had the chance to meet Winston Churchill, Count Dracula, and Leon from The Professional.

It’s unlikely that many of those kids are tuning in to watch Gary Oldman’s latest venture, the highly-acclaimed Apple TV+ series “Slow Horses,” which has just launched its fourth season. However, whenever they stumble upon a new role of his, it reminds them of the time they encountered Sirius Black or Commissioner Gordon.
