As a long-time fan of the MTV Video Music Awards, it’s been nothing short of exhilarating to witness the resurgence of this iconic event! The 2024 VMAs have proven yet again that they are the ultimate stage for music video excellence, with Taylor Swift breaking records left and right.
The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards scored their biggest audience in four years.
On Wednesday, Taylor Swift won her fifth video award of the year in the show, which drew an audience of 4.09 million viewers across MTV, 11 other Paramount-owned cable channels, and UniMas. This represents an 8% increase from the 2023 VMAs (3.78 million viewers), making it the highest viewership for the VMAs since 2020. The total audience includes the main show, pre-show, and rebroadcasts of the event.
This year’s main broadcast experienced a significant increase, drawing an average of 3.11 million viewers across all 13 stations – that’s a 25% jump from the 2.49 million viewers we had last year.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share some exciting news about the VMAs! MTV announced that the 2024 VMAs broke a record for an entertainment telecast with a whopping 66.7 million social interactions worldwide, according to Talkwalker’s Social Content Ratings. This impressive figure places it second only to Tuesday’s presidential debate when it comes to all TV programs ever. Additionally, MTV-owned social accounts recorded a staggering 829 million video views for the VMAs. That’s a significant 18% increase from the 2023 show, demonstrating the growing popularity of this iconic event!
Since reaching a record low of 2.56 million viewers in 2021, the simultaneous broadcast of the VMAs has seen an increase for three years in a row. It’s worth noting that Taylor Swift has been quite prominent on all these shows, taking home the “Video of the Year” award every time.
